To be honest I was actually quite nervous. I mean, the one thing I was good at was giving me nightmares. Jonny dropped me back home at around 2:45. We didn't just go to KFC, we spent some time at the beach too.
When I walked into the flat it was as quiet. Too quiet. I found a Post-It-Note stuck on the refrigerator, it was Tony's handwriting.
"To Red, I'm moving to Sally's. I left the rent money on the window ledge. Sorry to leave like this. Any problems call me. Tony."
(Sally, was Tony's girlfriend. I'd met her a few times, and she seemed a bit of a prat.) I couldn't believe it. I went and found the money on the window ledge, just like he said in the letter, and counted it up. He'd only given me enough money for one month's rent. One months rent?! How was I meant to buy food? I had no money as it is. I pocketed the cash and wandered into my room.
So I knew I had to go. I went I to my room and found a rucksack and filled it with all my personal belongings. The things I put in the bag where: Clean clothes, hair gel, aftershave and a few more essentials. I didn't have much stuff. I had a few posters on my wall, a pin board and a very nice lamp. But I wasn't going to take that with me. People might think I was trying to smuggle a bomb! Plus, I can imagine it would be HELL to carry.
The one thing I wanted to do before I left was make my bed, the one thing I NEVER did in the past. As I lifted my pillow up to plump it, a little brown teddy fell onto the carpet. I stared at the little bear, not knowing where it came from. But at that very moment, I remembered it all. That bear was a joint gift from my parents on my first Christmas. I picked the teddy up of the shag-pile carpet and looked deep into his eyes. I felt a tear roll down my cheek. At that moment there was a loud knock at the door, I quickly wiped the tear from my cheek and then ran to answer the door, hoping, praying it was Tony. But when I opened the door it wasn't Tony, it was a young couple.
"Hi, we're here about the flat." The man said holding out his hand for me to shake.
"Take it pal, it's yours." I said dropping the keys in his hand.
I walked away, not knowing where to go or what to do. I was still holding the little brown bear. As another tear ran down my cheek, a rusty pale green truck pulled up beside me.
