It began with the ticking, That incessant noise, It did something to me, Altered my poise.
My limbs felt alive, With electricity, A thumping, a booming, Sense of activity!
I let my lids fall, Shutting my eyes, And against the blackness, There was a surprise...
Burnt on my retinas, I could see the whole world, Snippets of broadcasts, Knife-edged and knurled.
A whole new world, In the back of my skull, My head had never- -Seemed so full.
My veins were wires, My pulse a chip, And a string of syllables, Left my lips.
I glanced at my fingers, Which glowed to the touch, Turned to my palms, I'd never seen such:
An apple emblem, Wired with lines, A million words spread, In fine-print lines!
My iPod was me, I'd become what I'd owned, Under the weight of the truth, My muscles groaned.
I trembled with knowledge, And searched on the web, But through it all, My enthusiasm ebbed.
What was a world, Without someone to share? What use could I make- -Of what was there?
