I woke up from the dream. But GOD it felt so real, I felt the heartbeat in my stomach, Oh, what a thing to feel...
My thoughts were lying pregnant, My stomach heavy, too, Place my palm across my navel, Instinctively I knew.
Another life inside my own, Another weight to bear, I recall my hand atop the mound, And knowing she was there.
In my dream I was comforted, I said 'I am too young', 'I am not ready for this charge', But I kept it. Held that tongue.
My dream felt real and genuine, I woke up feeling lost, That part of me was gone so quick, Like I had paid a cost.
Only in a dream was she, But tears still sting my eyes, What started bad then turned to good: A welcomed, child-surprise.
