It had only been a few seconds since the knocks had stopped. It was eerily quiet disrupted only by the sound of my heart pumping so erratically in my ears I was sure that Lewis and anyone in the surrounding rooms could hear it. I held my breath looking to Lewis for help. He placed a single finger over his lips then with two fingers he indicated to me then to under the bed. I nodded - I understood climbing gently off of the bed and dropping onto the floor. I slid myself under the bed and held lightly onto Lewis' trouser leg for comfort and for him to know I was there.
Not even a second passed and the door exploded open. A mix of voices shouting filled the room making no sense as they were all shouting above each other. I let go of Lewis' trousers somewhat reluctantly as I realised that whoever they may be could see me.
"Where is the girl?!" a voice boomed through the air demanding attention and gaining it unquestioningly.
"I don't know what you are on about" Lewis answered unbelievably calm.
"Don't play games with me - where the hell is she?" he thundered, I let out a little gasp which sounded so loud I clamped my hands over my mouth.
"As I said I don't know what you are on about - now could you please leave my room before my family get back" Lewis insisted lying perfectly.
"Not until you tell me where she is" he growled back stomping further into the room.
"I don't know! Now are we going to have to do this the hard way or the easy way?" Lewis asked almost patronisingly. What followed was a shuffling and clicking of guns and a light chuckle coming from Lewis. "Hard way I see" then another click sounded through the room originating from Lewis.
"Hah what do you think you're going to do against us? 1 against ... Seven really? I condone your optimism though it will be short lived" the leader sneered.
"What I think I'm going to do against you is this" five successive quietened shot were fired and five shocked gasps followed before thudding heavily to the floor. Suddenly louder fire started and Lewis jumped behind the bed putting more bullets in his gun. He peered under the bed and smiled gently at me.
"Be careful please" I quickly whispered before he bobbed out to face the remaining men. My comment shocked him his eyes widened and his mouth opened a little, but his gaze softened immediately. He took hold of my hand gently a smile creeping onto his face.
"I will be, don't worry - soldier remember" he whispered back his face so close to mine I could feel his hot breath on my face. He quickly jumped up and fired two shots. The other fire ceased and a deep chuckled followed.
"Well I underestimated you, it won't happen again" the leader choked out.
"What do you want with her?" Lewis asked walking over to the figure slumped against the wall.
"We need her, the world needs her" I rolled out of my position from under the bed, jumping to my feet just as he was putting his gun to his head.
"Stop!" I yelled this man knew something I wanted, needed to know. He grinned at me an evil glint in his eye as he pulled the trigger denying me my right to find out exactly who I was...
