the fireworks begin thundering through the night
flashes and pops of sparkling light
brilliance reflecting through the night sky
leaving the images in one's closed eye
watching with anxiety as they strike the first flame
waiting with excitement for the same firework again
they hit the night with a glorious boom,
and fill the sky with light as if it were a room
the sparks then gently float through the air
down to the children, get stuck in their hair
another is lit, another, another
the finale is coming, to a boy says her mother
the crowd waits in silence for that one last shot
and disappointed, they definitely were not
BOOM HISS SIZZLE BAM
the midnight explodes with sounds with a crisp WHAM
a rainbow of colors flies through the sky
and then the end is coming nigh
the display is over, the ashes are dead
noises are mute, gone are white, blue and red
the remains fill the sky with a thin curling cloud
and young children are grateful that it's no longer loud
