23 April 2012
The sleepy sun rose over the horizon and sent gold beams of light threw my green curtains that woke me up. I shifted and shivered before getting out of bed and walking to my closet. I checked my phone for weather advice. It said it would be cool in the morning but will climb to the upper 70s.
After scanning my closet I decided to wear a pair of jeans for now, but I'll probably change into my shorts. I also grabbed a light pink t-shirt that has a v-neck and 'Aeropostale' written down the side. I also slipped on a white tank top under that. I put on a pair of green socks and I slipped on my slippers.
I walked over to my heavy door and opened it. I stealthily creeped down the ebony-paneled floor. I turned to my left and creeped up on Hercules. I grabbed his collor and slipped it on him with out him knowing it. I carefully woke him up by rolling him on his back and tickling his stomach.
"Hercules, wake up boy." I whispered. "Do want to go for a walk?"
As soon as the last word rolled off my tongue he was up and out of the living room waiting for me at the door. He lifted up his massive paw and scratched the doorknob.
"Shhhh. Don't wake up mom and dad." I slowly opened the screen door and we slipped out. "Let's try no leash today." Hercules started to trot off toward the road but I wasn't following him. He thinks he knows everything. He looked back confused so I said, "In the woods." I motioned to the giant pines behind our house. He quietly turned around with his head down and humbly followed me.
We walked across the soft, lush, green grass of our lawn to the woods. A couple leaves spear on the ground and a couple more dance down from trees. More and more pine needles and leaves pile up on the ground and next thing we know we are in the forest. Tall oak, maple, and evergreen trees tower over us. The crisscrossing branches frame the blue sky above.
I saunter over to my favorite place. It's a big boulder that sits in the middle of the woods. It is the heart of the forest. Beside it rest an old elm tree that hangs over the rock like the rocks own personal guardian. That tree was my savior. When I was little I would always run to that place when ever I got upset. I got in trouble for running away with out letting anyone know, but it was worth every single second there.
When I got to the boulder I was surprised not to see the same familiar brown and leafy branch stretching over the top. I discreetly walked along the edge of the rock to the other side. I was shocked to see that the tree was gone! The sight horrified me. That tree was special-practically part of my life. Now it's gone. All that was left was a stump that popped out of the ground.
I slowly walked over to the stump and ran my fingers over the top. I could feel where metal teeth have tore apart my tree. The circles around it reminded me of ripples in a pond. I started to count the rings of the stump but I got dizzy and stopped. Having this tree cut down was like losing an old friend. I know that sounds stupid but its true.
Hercules got distracted by a smell and chased it around the rock like 50 million times and he kept going. Determined to find the end of the never-ending circle. Just then my back pocket started to vibrate. I pulled out my black phone and found that an unknown number was calling me. This is gonna be fun, I thought. I like messing with unknown numbers. Usually I talk in spanish, but half of the time the people calling are Spanish. I decided to go with english.
"Hello?" I said after hitting the answer button, killing the vibrations, and putting it to my ear.
I was in shock. I couldn't believe it. By the end of the conversation I was as white as a ghost. It lasted a couple minutes. He asked me a question and all I could choke out was "Sh-sh-sure." pathetic. I felt horrible when I hung up the phone.
It was Peter. Calling his girlfriend so he could break up with her. I told him he had the wrong number and he apologized. He must of felt pretty stupid, but I dismissed that thought immediately after he asked me out! I couldn't believe it. This Saturday. At 3:00. Oh my gosh. I was in lala-land after this.
I floated back to my house on a cloud of happiness and delight. Hercules, feeling my happiness, decided to be happy to. The birds sang sweeter. The wind felt warmer. Even the smell was nicer.
I opened the door and accidentally let it slam behind me. I flinched and was brought back to reality with a sharp pang. I hope I didn't wake up my parents, but I was real relived to see them sitting on the couch.
My mom had that we-need-to-talk look. But it wasn't a bad look. So I carefully walked over to her, ready to listen to the potentially dangerouse topic. She looked at me when I sat down and took a sip of her coffee.
"You're going away in a week to Montana. To stay with your aunt for a while."
This turned me into ruins. I crumbled under no pressure and turned to dust that got whipped away by the wind.
