Golden rays of happiness,
Reach down from the heaven above,
To kiss the surrounding prairie.
I rock rhythmically,
In my faded blue rocking chair,
Sipping iced tea,
And watching the fluffy white clouds,
Roll across the sky.
They pass by like the days,
That passed by so quickly.
Each second ticks by.
The surviving drops,
Of last night's rain,
Drip off the old white house,
In harmony with the seconds.
The drops make a puddle,
That will soon be sucked into,
The cool earth that lies beneath.
One day my seconds,
Will also puddle,
And eventually sink into the ground.
These ten years have gone by,
Too fast.
There's just too many things,
I wish I have done.
So many things,
I wish I could of saw.
Like my grandfather,
Or a sunset,
With the one I love.
The sudden movement,
Of my old graying dog,
Resting at my feet,
Put my regrets and wishes go on hold.
He looks up at me,
With black sleepy eyes,
That seem to say,
"Don't live in the past."
I sigh,
And smile.
I rest my head,
Against the back of my rocking chair,
And continue sipping my iced tea,
And watching the fluffy white clouds,
Roll across the sky.
