"And here is Carmel JV Colorguard performing their show, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star."
I walked into the large gym, filled with people on bleachers. I walked in a straight line over to the tarp, and helped pull it out. Everyone was nervous, you could feel the tension.
We pulled out the tarp and laid in our beginning places, waiting for the music to start.
It finally did. We started counting. "1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 1, 2, 3, 4…"
After 3 counts of 10 and 2 counts of 8, we got up and start dancing. We flew across the floor doing out dance routine while the flags spun flawlessly. Hannah and Riley had been successful with their solo. I caught the flag my partner threw to me and went into my flag part. I glided across the tarp to my spot and began performing each little movement perfectly in time. I soon paired my dancing with flags and stepped in a straight line towards my spot, pointing my feet while I moved my body in time with the flag. Finally, time to show off. I pushed the flag out to my side and threw it high I'm the air by flicking my wrist. It twirled around and then fell into my hands, then I continued the rest of the flag feature. Cheers erupted from the crowd. When we were finally done, we grabbed the flags and walked out, heads held high.
When it was time for awards, the whole guard walked out, in costume, to receive ours. We were the last ones to be called. The first five had gotten gold, the rest had gotten silver. Our hands sweated and we shifted around nervously. The announcer said "Carmel brought us their show Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. Let's send them home as stars with… GOLD!" We grinned and opened our arms like Pam had showed us. While we walked back we all looked at each other with wide eyes, speechless.
When we got back to the room and changed, Pam said "I thought you guys might want to know, but overall you got second!"
I had never felt better.
