'Hello. This is 999 What is your emergency? Which service do you require? Where are you currently?

There's a man inside your house? Tell me is he armed? Just stand and take a few deep breaths Until your heart rates calmed

I'm sending someone over Two units are on their way Please hide somewhere, anywhere And when your there just stay

Ma'am did I just hear a child? Your in there with your daughter? Please stick together, stay strong Blood is thicker than water

I hear you sobbing gently I hear your heartstring tugging cries Please just stay on the line to me Please don't say your goodbyes

Did you just say you hear him coming? The officers are almost there Don't worry or panic, we're coming You say now he's on the stairs?

Please don't cry, don't be afraid Keep yourself quiet and low And whatever you do sweetheart Please don't hang up the phone

The officers are at your door They're making their way inside They're coming up the stairs for him Please sit tight and hide'

I hear the door of the cupboard open I hear her crying with fear A mother young and vulnerable Sometimes I hate what I hear

He snatched the phone from her She was clinging to it like a lifeline I hate how helpless this job can be I imagine her kid is mine

I hear the officers storming inside Kicking open the door Yelling "Police! Put down your weapon Then get down on the floor!"

Shots go off. I'm wondering who There's so much confusion and noise Then I hear the painful cry It was one of our boys.

"Officer down! Officer down!" My radios screaming at me But what about the mum and child? Did they get out safely?

Later on I found out the truth The mother didn't survive The daughter is fine but in shock At least she's still alive

Our officer hit in the neck He didn't pull on through We lost some good people today But it's a job you have to do

It breaks your heart to take these calls To hear someone's life fall apart But they need us to talk to them To show a little heart

I take these calls to help people A thankless job of stress Toying with your emotions As you hear of their distress

They need you there to help To offer them some assistance But I'm always painfully aware Of the phones indifferent distance

Your right in the heart of the action But your not there at all All you can do is listen and talk That's why you take the call.
