"Hush now little bird You're safe now in my hands" It looks at me and instantly I know it understands
"I won't ask you to stay much more You've been here long enough You have stopped with me so briefly Little bird, you are quite tough"
It's sparkling eyes twinkle brightly With the prospect of freedom looming "Little bird, it's a beautiful world Especially when roses are blooming"
It flew in through an open door But then found itself trapped inside I came home to find it quivering In its miserable attempt to hide
"Little bird I love you so Please can you take care? Hold on now, don't squirm around Don't worry, we're almost there"
I climb up to the attic loft And open the window skylight "Now my beautiful little bird It's time for you to take flight"
I open my hands and he flies true Straight through the open window It's wonderful to know he's free But I am saddened to see him go
I know whenever I come up here I'll think of my little bird friend Looking through the pane eagerly To see how the story ends
Will he make a family someday? Will he ever come back to me? I guess I'll have to watch through the window I'll just have to wait and see...
