Precariously perched on the precipice she stands Her back turned to the sea With her soft outstretched hands A feeble attempt at an angel, Innocent, unplanned

Her untold story flashes Behind her tightly closed eyes The locket round her neck The wind softly sighs Given by a lost love perhaps? A birthdays sweet surprise?

The breeze ruffles her hair, Causes her dress to swirl With a ripple of white fabric A reflection of her inner girl The waves crash with muted vigour Respectful of this pearl

Even the grass seems greener And it dares not stain this soul The mournful pealing of the gulls A whispered effort to console In her solitude, she stays strong An exercise in self-control

She seems at peace now Almost accepting of her fate She takes just one step back, Her mind cleansed from hate One more step back leading Her right up to heavens gate

She takes it, slowly... slowly... Above the gulls still call Far below them the tranquil jewel Begins her silent fall Not a sound escapes her lips By the cliff she seems so small

No one knows her sadness Or what drove her to the edge Or who's face filled her silver locket Or why she chose that ledge Or when she made the choice Like a baby bird to fledge...
