We are in the business Of saving human life We offer a glimmer of hope Amidst the chaos and strife
We do carry weapons But that's not the message we send We carry them for protection For those who can't defend
Some people are so innocent But they get caught up in crime They are threatened for being there A case of wrong place, wrong time
A bomb! A gunshot! A bedroom blaze! Don't worry, we'll be there Putting our own lives at risk To save you in a scare
You have had a heart attack Don't worry, we're on our way That bomb is about to go off! This could be our last day
If your house is underwater We rescue you from the flood If your worried we'll be there The heroes of your neighbourhood
Every family reunited Every victim spared Every fire controlled carefully Every moment shared
You can barely even imagine How much it actually means When a child is safely rescued All those joyous scenes
And then there's those days When we gamble it all We desperately try, fervently Believing in stopping the fall
You cannot save everyone But that doesn't mean we stop Whenever we lose a casualty Our gentle hearts drop
It's crushing to see our defeat How we can't always win Then there's the family, grieving Saying why did it have to be him?
The trials and tribulations Of our precarious position Put enormous strain on us It credits recognition
The very worst days for us, however Are when we lose one of our own There's a family waiting patiently For the one who'll never get home
The one who dies so needlessly When trying to protect lives After avoidable accidents It's the guilty one that survives
We charge into burning buildings On the verge of collapse We're there for struggling addicts Who are suffering from relapse
We may seem armed and dangerous Wearing our bulletproof vests Our negotiators talk you to safety Coax you through life's tests
We are many different people From different walks of life We have different occupations Some of us have a wife
Some of us have kids Some of us live alone But if you ever need us Just call up on the phone
We are the emergency services We are the peacekeeping force We are the ones who stop the fights In a violent messy divorce
We are the ones who treat drunkards For alcohol poisoning to extremes We are the doctors, psychatrists Who save you from your dreams
The one thing binding us together Is that we all took a vow To endeavour to never do harm Don't worry, we'll do you proud.
