The Gift Of A Wish
You know, I remembered how I came to be here. That is a quite story to tell, let me tell you what happened long, long time ago. Yes……
Once upon a long, long time ago…….
“Hey you,” a voice rang out; I looked around to see if there is anybody. It was dark and damp, around midnight. It was freezing that night, I shivered to my bone. The street, always busy with full of people, like a busy bees a-buzzing about in daytime now are eerily empty. The streetlights and building lights shimmering upon the wet pavement from the rain. It was raining hard about an hour ago, now is drizzling. “Yes, you. Come here.” I jerked my head around, looking for that voice, a familiar voice. Far across corner of the street, where the group of few black people liked to play seven, I saw a shadow. Figure of shadow were wearing some kind of hooded cape. As I got closer to the figure of shadow, I could see blue eyes glowing eerily like sapphire embers. I can see an old man hidden inside hooded cape, hanging low on his face. Tears were falling from my eyes, but not because I was scared, I wasn’t In matter fact, I don’t need to be scared of this guy. He is the guy I love. “You remembered, don’t you?” He whispered in husky voice as his sapphire blue eyes glowing softly. I nodded softly, as he cupped my face with a hand, wiped tears from cheek with his thumb. I savored every moment he held my face in palm of his hand. As soon as he withdrew his hand, I snapped out of that warmth, comfort zone and its back to coldness and emptiness. Shadowed old man put an odd portion bottle. And small, beaten and worn out old looking journal book in my hand. “Take this, and go home. Follow this instruction that I have written down, I have to go now. I love you, forever.”
I ran all the way to my apartment, clinging the odd portion bottle and journal to my chest as if my life were depending on it. I slid down, sobbing good for half hour as soon I slammed the door behind me. I walked over to my small kitchen table, laid down the odd portion bottle on the table, sat down in the chair. I stared at items laid out on table for I don’t know how long, unsure if I should read it or leave it alone. I hesitantly picked up the journal, opened it and went on reading it.
“Should you ever come across this portion and journal;
Beware of picking vessel, for if anything ever goes wrong,
Disembodied or death will occur.”
I stared at that little quote, yet very intimidating. I went on reading, slowly. I wanted to make sure I didn’t miss out on anything, beside I am curious what does this little journal have to say about portion bottle, what does that bottle contains. As soon as I finished it, I laid it down on table and started to think, really hard. I called up my really good old guy friend, he have this huge crush on me. I told him I needed to see him, which he needed to come over immediately. When I told him that over the phone, I sobbed hysterically. He screeched his way over to my apartment, and rushed in. He have a key to my apartment, he was the only guy I trusted. I pretended sobbing hysterically as soon as he rushed to my side. “What’s wrong” Donald asked, giving me the worried look. “Oh, everything and nothing.” I bawled. I half told truth and half lied to my friend Donald, “When I walked down the street from my work, I felt someone was watching me. I even heard my name being called. I was so scared, I thought I saw him.” I paused as I was trying to catch my breath. “He appeared as quickly as he disappeared, I ran fast as I could. I didn’t even look back, what if it was him? I should go back, right?” I whimpered as I looked up into his emerald green eyes. He looked at me softly, and asked “Do you remember he got killed by those hunters?” he paused for a moment then continues “I need to use restroom, I will be out in matter of seconds, and will you be okay?” “Yes, now that you are here.” I replied, grabbing the tissue from tissue box to blow my nose then added, “I will make us an iced tea.” “That would be great, because I am thirsty. Be back in seconds” He replied as he walked into restroom. I sprang to kitchen, and hurried making iced tea for both of us, grabbed the odd portion bottle from the cabinet I hid earlier before he arrived, poured into his iced tea. I whipped out the beaten, worn out old journal and chanted the invocation that was written on the journal. Longer I chanted, faster portion swirling, glowed eerily, and then suddenly dimmed as soon as the door of restroom opened. I hid an odd portion bottle and old journal as fast as I could.
As we sat in living room, he sat close to me and comforted me as I continue with my half-truth and half lie story. He started to make me feel better; we started to chat among other things and drank the iced tea. As he drank, I watched closely; watching out for those little sign. Nothing happened for next 20 minutes. Suddenly, he rolled off armchair, and flopped on the carpet like a fish on the land. I jumped back and watched in horrified, worried that I might have done it wrong. 5 minutes passed by, he lay still there as if he was nothing but a corpse. I sat still on the edge of sofa, watching him closely. Tears were streaking down my cheek. His fingers started to twitched a little, and heard a groan. I sat up, startled. He got up and turned to me. “I’m back, baby.” When I saw that sapphire blue eyes glows, I knew. I screamed with a joy “OH DANIEL!!!” I jumped to him, held on to him tightly as if he was going to leave me. He held on to me tightly as well. As soon I opened my eyes, I jumped back and screamed. “What’s matter, honey?” He said, startled by my screaming. “T-t-t-th-e-e-e there’s a shadow….” I stuttered, pointing. Daniel turned to a shadow. He picked me right up and sprang me right out of the door as soon as the shadow roared “I WANT MY BODY BACK!!” He broke into neighbor’s car and drove all the way to remote motel.
“What was that?” He asked as he laid down the jacket on the motel bed that Donald had on. “I don’t know!” I exclaimed. “Calm down, baby I was just asking” He spoke in soothing voice as he walked over to my side, and sat down to stoke my hair. I love when he does that. We both fell back on bed flatly on our back. I turned to his side as he pulled me close and drifted off to deep sleep as dawn started to rise. We were dead to the world as morning dew shimmers upon blades of grass from the night of rainfall.
As the sun started to set, the phone rang; startling me right up. “Don’t answer that.” Daniel said sleepily in husky voice. “I have to, what if it was my mother, remember I called her when we got here, I left her the motel and room number.” I replied as I picked up the phone. “I want my body back” said the gruffly voice. I hang up as quickly as I heard that voice. Daniel must have seen the look on my face because he asked me what was happening. I told him who that was. He sprang right up in bed, and spoke in stern voice “We need to omit the shadow. There is possible that the soul of this vessel wants it back and he can take it back.” “But,… HOW?” I whimpered. “I don’t want to lose you again, ever.” I sobbed. “Don’t worry. There is a way to omit his spirit, forever” he sneered calmly. I started to smile as I lay my head on his bare chest. We laid there good for half hour, it was nice and quiet. The kind of peace I’d like to have. That silence was broken as soon as he spoke. “I am hungry, are you?” I nodded hesitantly. “What’s wrong?” He asked. “Well, I am not that hungry though. You can go if you want. I’ll wait here when you come back and we will stroll down the park? Ok, there is something I need to talk with you through.” I replied. He gave me a long and hard look, as if he could see me through. “Okay, if you wish so” He shrugged. As soon as he left I let out a long exhale of reliefs.
We strolled across the park, where it is beautifully deserted under the full moon. That night, the moon was big and beautiful. Moonlight shimmering eerily everywhere. “it’s beautiful night, every night with you will be like this, and nothing will take me away from you, that is a promise I give you under this full moon” he spoke in a soft, husky voice as he bit his fingertip, lifted it up to my lips. I sucked on the blood that trickles down his finger. “I hope so.” I replied. Suddenly I screamed as something yanked me from behind. “HELP!!! DANIEL!!!” I continued screaming. He sprang from bench as he tries to pull me back. Shadow swirled around me, surrounding me completely. I froze in terror; I could hear Daniel screaming my name. I wanted to run, I wanted to scream but I couldn’t I stood there, frozen in full of terror. “What is going on? What’s happening? Is it Donald? Am I going to die?” Those thought were racing in my head. “No, think back more, and you bet on your life you ARE going to DIE!!” a gruff voice said, as if it was reading my mind. The shadow swirled around me fast, faster, and fastest as it start to suck my air. I couldn’t breathe. I could still hear Daniel screaming my name but it started to fade. Things around me started to spin, spinning out of control. Oh, I am dizzy…
I opened my eyes, to see Daniel hovering over me, shaking me violently. “Anne, wake up… Are you okay? What the heck?” “Huh, ohh hmm, my head hurts” I muttered. He pulled and helped me up, and spoke in soft, worried voice “Please tell me what’s going on? I co
