23 August 2012
I wear the hoodie you gave me;
Burgundy red, buttons,
Deep pockets,
Soft, comforting,
Made in Taiwan for
Some chain store,
H&M or Primark I guess,
Just a hoodie, it's true,
But so much more because
It smells just like you,
It's a memory of your shape,
Your outline in woven cotton,
Reminds me of things I had forgotten;
Like when you let me
Borrow your scarf
When it was cold,
How you'd let your knee
Rest against mine
Beneath the table,
Throw your arm around
My shoulders when you
Had drunk more than enough,
The way you'd whisper to me,
Make me laugh in class,
Despite the disapproving glances,
From other students.
And I have a photo of
You wearing it when
We walked along the river
Together, a perfect day.
Wearing it is like having
Your arms around me again,
Soft, warm, comforting,
Like you never went away,
Like this hoodie
And memories
Aren't all I have.
I wear the hoodie you gave me,
Every
Day.
