I fell in love
With a dragon,
From the days
Of old,
Eyes of gold,
Skin a purple-silver,
Scales a-shimmer,
Teeth as long
As my forearm,
Deadly jaws,
Foot-long claws,
Fiercely beautiful,
Winged behemoth,
Lithe yet powerful,
Feared by most;
Except I know
The truth
Of a curse,
Set upon you
Aeons ago,
By a lover, spurned,
A witch you should
Not have hurt,
You were then
Destined to never
Be loved again,
For who could fall
For your reptilian form?
Somehow I saw
Through the fear
And flames
To a scorched heart,
And burning soul,
Of a young man
Hidden within,
And thus
My quest, my search,
Began;
To find a cure
To free you from
The evil spell,
So you may once again
Walk among men,
But until then
I'll love you still,
And will sleep
Held within
A perfect wing,
Warmed by
Breath of fire,
Protected by
My dragon lover.
