He was almost a man in size and stature; he had two arms and two legs, toned and muscular, but not overly so. From a distance he could have been mistaken for a man, but up close he was undeniably different; his features were sharp, like that of a fox, but still strangely handsome, his inquisitive green eyes darted left and right, always assessing his environment. Two large, pointed ears adorned his head, covered in a layer of fine, red fur. They twitched and moved, seemingly independent of him, turning towards the source of a distant birdcall. He was always alert, his muscles taut, ready to fight or flee - whichever was more prudent. He was talented at both; his lean, lithe body had easily out-manoeuvred the hulking forms of our former captors. His startlingly wild, crimson hair was half-Mohawk, half-mane and ran down the length of his back, between defined shoulder blades, ending in a brush of a tail. His whole appearance was distinctly fox-like. Luckily for me, he seemed to be blessed with the cunning of a fox also. He suddenly turned to me, smiling, revealing small, crisp-white fangs.
"Do you trust me?" He said, holding out one paw-like hand towards me. I hesitated, then took his hand. I didn't know if I could trust him but I didn't have much choice. He had just risked his life to save mine.
"What's your name?" I asked, my voice tiny and terrified.
"Vex," he replied, his nose twitching. With that he turned, his strides strong and purposeful, and led me further into the forest.
