He was a death dealer, a soul stealer. A life taker he was the oath breaker. Living in shadows, resting with death. Cursing the living, with every breath.
His job was to guide mortals,to give them hope. Instead he hated and hoped we would hang ourselves, given enough rope.
Left to our own devices, left without a guide. Man created miracles, found the god inside. This enraged the demon, who was an angel one time, saw the happiness of man as a crime. So it came up with a plan, to end the reign of man.
To one man he gave uncanny powers. Raising the dead and calming stormy waters, feeding thousands, a saviour to call ours.
This man was then martyred and deified, Mankind lost their god inside.
As this first domino fell, The demon waited patiently for the following hell.
Reports grew convoluted and evidence was thin. Man killed man, everything was sin. Religious wars raged throughout the land, Persecution and death grew out of hand.
Just as it took one man to destroy us, we cry out for one man to save us. When all we need to do, is find our own happiness that's in me and in you.
*Authors note* This wasn't intended to be a poem or even be about religion. I had the first few lines and intended to make a story about a demon bounty hunter trying to make up for a previous mistake. Still might do that, but for some reason started rhyming and ended up with this!
