But what is the future of poetry? And what is the past?
You like Robert Frost, America loves him I am utterly lost in the freeform of Walt Whitman
He likes Don Paterson, She loves Mark Doty, dotes on him
We like Nathan Todd Cool, Surf Poetry, but do you?
Genius? Shakespeare of course, Modern poetry? Alice Oswald
Compare Samuel Taylor Coleridge To Ron Silliman's The Alphabet
Yeats you can study at degree level, But I prefer verse more original
You know what the poetry of now is? It is poetry from the lips of a rap artist
Millions know it, love it, sing it Does that make it poetry or lyric?
Snoop Dog the poetry teacher? DRS, Diddy Comb, and Jay Z?
Doesn't look like poetry in appearance, But what is the difference?
You may love meter and stanza? I hate it, doesn't interest me
But I'll read anything written with passion, In fashion, out of fashion,
The answer to all of this; poetry Is words for each individual, like art
One person's masterpiece is Another man's junk
My conclusion; read everything (Including Opuss) , write for yourself, no one else, don't be afraid of not being liked, or chase rank, or try to be something you don't want to be
Take inspiration from everything
Beautiful words are, simply, beautiful words We are all lovers here, lost in poetry For good, or for worse
