18 June 2012

It starts with a jump. Heart beating, pulse racing; an adrenaline fuelled leap of faith. When I take that first step, my life flashes before my eyes. Thoughts of happiness, sadness... And her.

I thrust my thoughts aside. The moment passes and I fall, feet first, from the sky. I twist and turn until my head faces the ground and I spiral down like a torpedo. My stomach tightens into an iron grip as the fear gets to me, but there's no going back now. It's do or die.

The ground grows closer, my death looms over, but I press onwards. I'm not the only one falling from the sky tonight.

I reach out, my hand only brushing hers. She falls lower and lower as time runs out.

I bring my arms closer to my sides and gain a small increase in velocity. Again, I reach for her and again I miss.

I may fear for my life, but I fear for hers more. I stop worrying, I drop all selfish thoughts and I try again.

My arm stretches out and my hand wraps around hers, refusing to let go.

With sudden terror, my eyes go wide and I balk at the sight before me. The ground has come to greet us. I close my eyes and pull her close. My head rests in her hair and I feel our hearts beat in tune. The ground closes in.

My eyes open with a newly determined fire.

We're soaring. Gliding through the air, the wind at our backs. I look down at her in my arms and smile. She opens her own and tears fall. A single feather falls to her cheek. "You came for me..."
