It was a beautiful day and the weekend promised fair, so they decided to throw a few things in a case, jump in the car and drive. Where to wasn't important, it was the break away that was.

It wasn't long before the crowded, congested city was left behind and the mountain roads beckoned. Top down, wind in her hair, he thought her the most beautiful girl he had ever met. After all these years together he sometimes felt he should pinch himself. This beauty chose him!

She smiled at her husband. Her blue eyes sparkling with delight. Such a wonderfully delicious feeling; to have two whole days of him to herself. His brown eyes drawing her in like rich chocolate. She leant over and kissed him softly. Before admonishing him to watch the road. His throaty chuckle sent shivers down her spine; promising so much.

Not many days could be as perfect. Their love enclosed them. Stopping for lunch at a beautiful inn tucked into the mountains, they had a perfect view across a never ending valley roofed by a sapphire blue sky. It was obvious to all that interruptions would not be welcome. They had no room for others that day, did not want to waste a moment away from each other.

The car ate up the miles. It's engine purring contentedly, almost as though their happiness permeated even there. Music loud, singing out of tune but full of joy, they were teenagers again. Their love a tangible thing.

As the car rounded the bend he turned to smile the goofy smile she loved so much. Her heart skipped a beat.

His head whips round. She screams. His foot hits the brake. For a moment they are flying. Framed by that glorious sky. Hands reaching, almost touching. The valley welcomes them; folds them into its embrace.

The family try not to weep when the news reaches them. And later by the graveside, yes there are tears, but they are silent and slow. Until Lucy kneels beside the freshly filled graves and whispers "Goodbye granny, goodbye gramps. I'll miss your sunshine and your smiles. I wish you hadnt taken that break away."
