Remember when you'd start conversations At one in the morning Because all we were doing Was both refusing to sleep, Choosing instead to revel in Our post midnight thoughts, When the darkness loomed And the silence was deep.
A few minutes later we'd soon, Mutually regret our words, You'd regret typing 'Hello...' With its unending end, More of a question than a Way of addressing me Through digital letters Stamped, click send.
On the other side I'd smile Ever wishing you were with me Instead of separated by screens And miles of ebony night, We'd chat for hours until Our spelling skills dwindled. Yet my heart skipped a beat, When your name comes to sight.
That was us last year when we Were both the same, both young. Maybe it's different now Now that you're in university, If at midnight I posted a simple 'hi.' Would you greet me with the Same mock disbelief, or would Your lights be dimmed eternally.
