Okay, but since when?
Since when did I fall as quick as a rock
Into the pit that trapped me in
And choked me and gagged me
And kicked me as I fought it?
Tried to punch it
Tried to stop it.
It wouldn't let me go
It just wouldn't set me free.
No. This fall was deep.
Deeper than all the others before it
Those minor trips, and shallow dips
Faded bruises, short circuit fuses
No, this one gave me a battle scar.
And struck me straight in the heart
Straight on my torso, slightly left?
Yep, this arrow hit me there
And it took me no time to see
Who had strung the bow
Who had set the trap.
I knew it'd be that cherub child
That God of Love, so quick to strike
So quick to aim. His silly game.
And bullseye did he hit!
It was far too late of course
For me to deflect the dreaded blow
That punch that knocks the air out
That stab that teases the heart
That virus of the soul
Has been let loose today
And there was nothing more to do
But to wish that they'd go away.
