Sometimes
When the world
Is quiet enough
I can hear my
Own visions
Buzzing around
The room like
Lost honey bees
Searching for
Flowers in an
Ocean of grey
Pessimism and
Blackened walls
That barricade all
Hope of dreams
And ambitions;
Stops seeds from
Growing into pink
Blossom trees
And bearing fruit
For a better future.
My thoughts they
Become impatient
Trying to break
The chains that
Hold them, bolt
Them to the
Concrete floor
That gets colder
Every winter and
Loses colour even
In the summer,
When the grass
Is supposedly an
Emerald green
And the tulips all
A vermilion red.
Why then is this
Darkness looming
At the corners of
Every street, down
Each winding road?
Why are these gates
Padlocked shut, not
Thrown wide open?
As they used to
Be when I was
Younger, freer.
My thoughts are
Being thrown
Around the room,
Still looking for
Inspiration in a
World that keeps
Blowing winds on
Every candle that
Has been newly
Lit. What happened
To encouragement?
Optimism has
Been missing
For such a while,
Exhiled in a city
Of rationality and
Practically, of black
Suits, black ties,
Black shoes, Where
Have the brightly
Coloured tshirts
Gone, the artwork
That proclaims
Peace and love,
The music that
Touches the soul,
Where are they,
Are they dead?
They can't be!
And they are not,
Yet they are trapped
Not always allowed
To exit their boxes,
Nor given the
Means to destroy
The cages that they
Were put in when
Frowning faces
Fell upon them,
Fingers raised
And arms crossed
So tightly in a
Knotted confusion
That lacked light
Right from the start.
Feel sorry for these
Withered beings
That have been
Stuck underground
For too long, their
Eyes can't adjust
To our lanterns of
Faith, belief, freedom.
Why do they want
To kill our dreams?
I still don't know,
So all I can do,
All we can do is
Make sure we go
Around pulling down
Every obstacle that
May come our way,
Set free your dreams,
Allow them to
Occupy not only
Your room, with
Its pale walls and
Dimly lit spaces,
But let them
Expand right
Through the roof,
Yes things will
Discourage you,
Yes pitfalls and
Snares lie waiting
Ahead, but you
Have the means
To dodge them,
Stop them, build
A bridge right
Over them.
There's nothing
Stopping you, only
Stalling you, so
Take the sprint
And allow your
Visions, to buzz
Around your room
Forever searching
Forever trying,
To find the light
That will begin
An entirely
New life.
