Chapter 2
I peered around the door and found and man stood in my form tutors place. I couldn't be any happier. Wait, what if this teacher is just as bad as Miss Hinckley. I stood there for a few seconds with a blank expression on my face to try and figure out what to do. "would you like to sit down" he gestured his hand over to the direction of the spare seat next to Adela. I gave a little weak smile and then walked over to the spare seat and then sat down. "do you have a note to say why you were late?" "oh, yeah here it is" I un crumpled the note that was in my hand and held it out in the direction of the new teacher. He walked over to my desk and carefully took the note, read it and walked over to his desk and placed it upside down on the surface. "Sophie" he said "my name is mr Parker, and I am your new form teacher" His voice was like he was telling me off for something, like I had done something wrong. He then turned away and walked over to the computer and logged on. "whilst I am trying to get the register loaded up you can all talk quietly for a bit" mr Parker said. As soon as he said that Adela whipped her self around to look at me, I thought she was going to give her self whiplash. "what happened, why were you late" she said with curiosity. "oh yeah sorry about that, my alarm didn't go off so I accidentally slept in." I didn't want to tell her about the bus or seeing that boy because she would ask too many questions and lecture me about talking with strangers. "what did I miss?" I asked. "oh, nothing much. Just the new teacher saying hello. He seems quite nice actually." "really?" I said with disagreement. "yeah he seems much more upbeat and friendly than miss Hinckley. He even let us play a class game of hangman whilst we had spare time." she said with excitement in her voice. "I guess hangman is better than silent reading... But he did seem awfully angry with me when I arrived." "I didn't notice it, anyway your too paranoid" "Ha!" I said with a hint of sarcasm in my voice. "if anyones paranoid then its you and your phone ringing me every five minutes checking if I'm ok!" We both then burst out in a fit of laughter.
During our giggle I turn to look out of the window to try and stop myself from laughing too much just in case I get off. As I look I see a tall slim body leaning on a lamppost which is on the opposite side of the road. I stare at him for a while whilst blocking off the noise of Adela's hysterical laughing. Even though I can't see the persons eyes behind the dark film of the sunglasses I can sense that he is looking directly into my eyes. His posture and figure reminds me of the boy I met this morning, Joe. Deep down I don't think it's him. Even thought I can't see his face he seems younger than Joe. Only by a few years, but younger. Then I notice a bag beside him. It's about the size of a small package. Maybe the size of a book or two. He then looks down in the direction of the bag. Looks at me. Then picks up the bag, crosses the street walks away. I keep my eyes trained on him until it becomes impossible to see him unless I dangle outside the window.
"what are you doing?!" I turn around and find mr Parker looking at me with a stern eyes of curiosity. "umm, I was... I was just..." I struggled for a response. I couldn't tell him the truth because what help would that do?. "just as I though!" mr Parker has a sheet of mixed emotions placed on his face. I stare at him wondering why he would. Maybe he's trying to put on an act or just doesn't know what to do. "outside with me" the whole class falls silent. I slowly prise myself away from the window and walk over to mr Parker. I see Adela's eyes look at me with bewilderment. I just gave her a shrug and made my way for the door. I place my hand on the door handle about to push down when it opens from the other side. I take a step back. I look up and see a boy. About my age, 14. He has nice brown hair with slight spikes and a jacket with the words "Angel" written on them. I look up and see the boys face. I instantly think of Joe and the strange dark character outside the window. Although he's younger than both of them I still seem to sense a strong connection between them. He give me a smile breaking me from mid though. His smile was to die for. It was lush. I smile back feeling a slight rosiness feeling in my cheeks. He steps to the side. "going past" he says whilst gesturing his hands to let me pass. "oh, yeah I am thanks" As I walked through the door I smelt the smell of burning. Not smoke but burning. It's weird because I swear that that was the smell on Joe this morning apart from the fact that Joe's was slightly fainter and masked with spray. I wonder if they know each other, or if they were together this morning. "Ahh there you are Dan" says mr Parker with slight curiosity evident in his voice. "Sophie wait over there and I will be with you in a minute" I nod my head and walk down the hallway until I reach the first chair which is placed just outside the schools library doors. I see mr Parker usher Dan up to the other end of the hallway. I try to figure out what they are saying but I can't quite hear then with the added background noise. I notice that mr parker has a Slight worried look on his face whilst Dan has excitement. I then notice mr Parkersburg hand pointing discreetly in my direction. Dan then looks at me and smiles. I wonder what's happening. Why am I involved. If I am involved that is. Then their conversation ends and mr Parker and Dan parts from each other. “You can come inside now” says Mr. Parker with a slight gritting in his teeth. “Oh. Ok then” I try to hide my curiosity as to why he would send me outside to talk and then send me back inside again. I wonder if it was because of the time. But deep down I think he has left me a clue because there’s a slight scent of mystery as soon as he started to talk to Dan. I wonder if it was because he wanted me to overhear his conversation. Or maybe I'm just overlooking things. I walk back into the classroom without saying a word to anyone and then sit back in my seat. Everyone in the class is silent. No one dares to speak because they know that I'm not the type of person to get told off. They all know that the thing that I got shouted at for most was the day when I got bored and scribbled all over my science book. But in my defence I didn’t think I deserved a telling off because it’s not my fault that science can just be so boring; especially when the teacher is giving us a lecture about how bread rises. I mean, come on who is going to stay awake for the whole of that lesson? As I took me seat Adela whips herself around and faces me. “What did you do?” she said with curiosity “Don’t know” I said with a shrug “Well; what did he say to you outside?” she’s now looking as if she would do anything for an explanation. I must admit she is the very curious type. “He didn’t say a word, he was too busy talking to that boy, Dan” I said with a roll of my eyes “What! There was a boy here?” “Yeah. Didn’t you see him? He was there as soon as I opened the door” “Oh. I must have missed him” you could tell that she was disappointed to have missed seeing the boy. But something was worrying me, why didn’t she see him? I mean, he was as clear as day when he stood under the doorframe and I doubt that Adele didn’t watch me out of the room. I wanted to ask me if she had seen me walk out but Mr. Parker interrupted me. “Right class, off to your next lesson” he said trying to strain his voice over the class of giggling girls. “But where in here for our next lesson” says a girl from the back of the class. I can’t quite see who it is but I'm guessing its either Bethany or charlotte. Mr. Parker rustles a few papers that were placed on his desk and stares at one and then looks at the class. “Umm, you won’t be in here for your next lesson but you will be with Mrs. Hands in room 18.” “What about the other group?” shouts Adela right in my ear. There are some more rustling of papers and then Mr. Parker announces “your group will be with Mr. Phillips in room 21. Off you go then” The class gives off a moan; to be honest I can’t blame then because we have an English test now. “Yay!” says Adela “who doesn’t want an English test” with sarcasm easily delectable in her voice.
The whole class gets out of their seats and makes their way to the door. When I slide out of the door the corridor is packed. To the right hand side there is a row of people from our class. To the left there is a row of people who look like they’re about 17. Then in the middle there are all of the late teachers who are trying hard not to be late for their next lesson trying to squeeze their way through. I can’t do anything but laugh. I always find a packed corridor scene funny, I don’t know why, but I do.
After trying to tackle the corridors I manage to find my seat in the English classroom. I'm not with Adela this lesson because she’s in the lower group but she still has a test though. Then Mrs. Hands walks in. I like her because she is the only teacher who can control the class, but she is really strict and makes us sit in a seating plan. I would mind a seating plan apart from the fact that she put right in the middle of the two most annoying girls in the class: Abbie and Kim. There nice girls but they just can’t stop talking and they constantly play around. “Get in your seats girls!” booms Mrs. Hands I hear a lot of shuffling behind me and then silence. “Right girls, I will hand out your tests face down and do not turn them over until I say. She waddles around the classroom and places a test in front of all her pupils. Then when she gets to me she pauses for a moment and gives me a slight nod. That was weird I thought. Why did she give me a nod? I reckon it’s just because she’s old. I dismiss it and look down to my paper. I always do this; I always try and stare at the back of my paper hoping that I can read what some of t
