What happened?!” she said with worry

“Umm…” I looked around the vast darkness of my surroundings not knowing who was out there. I think Esme sensed this.

“Come inside, I’ll make you something to drink”

Esme’s hand gestured me in and I cautiously walked up the steps of her house whilst gripping my arm as tightly as I could hoping the pain would go away. I walked into her kitchen passing the living room on my way. I sat down on one of her kitchen chairs and waited for Esme to finish making the drink.

“Is hot chocolate ok?” said Esme

“Yeah. Thanks” I said struggling to find the right words.

Before I knew it I found a steaming hot cup of hot chocolate sat in front of me with four marshmallows placed on top of the liquid.

“Thank you” I said whilst smiling up at her. I then noticed that her parents aren’t home. Maybe there just asleep, but the last time I was here they were really cautious and could here every noise in the house and would’ve been here by now. “Don’t your parents mind?” I said

“They would. But there not here” she said causally

“How come”

“There out for the week” she said “it’s for their job she quickly added.

“oh. Ok then” I said. I personally thought it was strange that her parents would leave her home alone because they are really over protective.

“Anyway, enough about me. What happened to you?”

I looked down at my arm. I forgot about the pain until he mentioned it again.

“Umm… it’s kind of hard to explain” I said trying not to make eye contact

“Try me” she said with a smirk

I told her that I was walking home I met a group of boys who cornered me and broke my arm. I missed out the part about Taylor and the strange man in my house. I also chose to leave out the part about the strange day I had with Dan and Joe.

“Oh my god! Are you ok?!” she said moving to the chair next to me.

“Yeah I’m fine, it was just a bit of a shock” I replied trying to sound as brave as I could. Esme put her arm around me and tried to make me feel better. The way she acted when I told her was weird. It was like she had heard it before or if she was expecting it. I didn’t think much of it but it still made me think.

“I’ve got a blow up bed in the spare room. You could always stay the night if you want” she said facing me so that I looked her in the eye. I was hoping she would’ve asked me to stay but I tried to look shocked and grateful.

“Please” I said “If you don’t mind” I added

“Of course you can, if I did mind I wouldn’t have asked” she said with a slight rush in her voice. I smiled at her and she grabbed my shoulder.

“come upstairs and I’ll show you your bed”

I followed her up the stairs and entered the spare bedroom. She grabbed the blow up bed and tried to carry it out of the room. I could tell she was struggling because the bed was a bit big.

“Do you want some help?” I asked

“Nah I’ll be fine; but you can get the bedding if you want” she pointed over to a pile of pillows with a quilt scrunched up next to it. All the bedding was pre-made; just as if they were expecting some one. I grabbed the bedding and tried to carry it all in my one good arm. I struggled a bit but I managed. I walked out of the room and followed her into her room.
