So think a minute....

Imagine there's a looking glass like the one that leads to wonderland (well instead of looking-glass world wonderland for now just bear with me) and the amount of people that entered the looking glass, only that amount no more no less could exit THE END.

It's a bit depressing to think about...

The reason the Mad Hatter is mad is because the evil queen asked him to take her to wonderland to get something. He obliged leaving his daughter and went. The queen got what she wanted. What she wanted was her father. She and her father exited the mirror leaving behind the mad hatter and eventually trying to escape wonderland became mad.

So rule of the looking-glass:

1. Amount of people that go in shall go out but only with the same amount of people (as in the mad hatter's case two went in and two went out)

Is there any way the mad hatter can get back to his normal world?

Example: what if Alice brought another living thing with her left it there and exited with the mad hatter?

It doesn't have to concern Alice or anyone particular...

Just help the mad hatter escape so he can return to his daughter... I take my leave

This was inspired by the TV series "once upon a time"
