This took place about three years ago, before Nate and I started dating, and it's not particularly prominent in our lives together, but it's one of those things that at the time makes you hate someone, but when you look back you can't help but laugh:
It was the summer of one of my GCSE years, and I was taking Geography as an option, so I was about to embark on a compulsory trip to The Alps, which I wasn't particularly looking forward to. Although my teacher convinced me it was sunny, I'd rather have been a few miles west in St Tropez, so I was pretty adamant I didn't want to go. Plus, my best friend Nate wasn't taking Geography (he always complained that it was merely colouring in, which he was notoriously bad at). To add to my stress, my parents were jetting off to some remote tropical island and my brother was too, so my dog (Jet) was going to be home alone. My parents had always told me they didn't want him going to Kennels as they thought it was 'inhumane' or something, so I was faced with a dilemma. But obviously, Nate being the gentleman he was, he offered to look after Jet for me whilst I was on my trip, which was a week long. Unfortunately, this was his first time looking after a dog, and despite the numerous instructions I gave him about how much Labradors like to eat and how much exercise they need, he managed to mess up. You can picture my annoyance when he called me up on the second day of my trip to alert me to the fact that whilst walking Jet, he'd managed to totally lose him, in the middle of nowhere. I didn't forgive him for about a month, and after me having to fly home early under the excuse that my grandmother was ill, we finally managed to track him down, a day later. He was sat under a tree, about half a mile from where Nate had lost him, gnawing on a stick, which was typical of my dog. Even when Nate and I were in a real relationship, Jet still gave him a wide birth, as he never really forgot that incident quite like Nate and I did.
So there you are, the first little thing that made Nate and I's lives together like a little patchwork quilt.
