Mollie and I arrived at the venue in my town car, which is a black limousine. I used it to travel around the city from dawn to dusk, and I'd used it since I was 6 years old. Obviously then I'd used it with my mother or my nanny, but over the past 4 years I'd been trusted to ride around the city on my own, or with Nate and Mollie.
I couldn't wait to see Nate: it wasn't a surprise as to what he was going to wear, but I wanted to see his reaction to my dress, and I just wanted to see him again. It had been about 2 hours since he'd turned up at my door, and I missed him already. I didn't know how I was going to last this summer with him swimming around the world, and me staying in the city; apart for the first time.
We stepped out of the car, in the middle of the city. I knew where the event was being held, as Mollie and I had arranged the venue. We stepped out of the car and looked across to the shaded and gated courtyard. The gates were open, and the trees that shaded the entrance to the Plaza Hotel were in bloom, with tiny white flowers. Tiny white fairy lights were draped along the branches, welcoming us to the venue. We knew we were the last people to arrive, and we liked it that way. People would turn to the door and notice us as the 'late ones'; then they'd notice our dresses, and then they'd all notice when we went across to our dates. We were certain that from then on, eyes would be on us all evening.
And just like we predicted, everyone did so. People gasped and whispered as we entered. But I wasn't focused on the whisperings among the champagne, I had my gaze fixed on one man, and one man only. Nate was wearing a classic tuxedo, which I happened to know was from the same man that made all my dad's tux's and suits in Singapore. He looked classically beautiful; with his hair combed but still mussed up in the way that suited him the most. He was holding a glass of champagne, but immediately as I entered, a waiter came over and handed him a special glass with a strawberry on the top. I walked down the white marble steps, with photographers and many other guests whipping out their phones and taking pictures of me. I hoped some would go on the Internet, so there was some way of my parents knowing how great I looked.
As soon as I made it over to Nate, I felt like I was flying. I haven't been this happy for such a long time. I hugged him, and took my drink, all the time knowing that photos were being snapped of me.
Little did I realise that I'd left Mollie at the top of the stairs, looking lost. There was an area where the single people were supposed to mingle, and I knew she would hate it there. I had an idea, and whispered in Nate's ear
"Has Charlie got a date?"
"No, at least I don't think so" he replied.
"I'll be back in a minute" I said, kissing him on the cheek, and making my way over to where Charlie was sitting with a girl.
"Charlie, can I talk to you for a minute?" I asked as politely as possible
"Sure," he said, weighing up whether to leave his latest conquest. "Have you grown tired of Natey boy? Because I'm always-"
"Eww no," I cut in "but as I think you're the second hottest guy in this room, and I know you'll treat her right;"I said, glaring at him, "How would you like to take that girl up there for a dance?" I said, turning my head to look at Mollie.
"Mollie?!" he asked in shock "Does she want to go with me?"
"I don't know, but it's worth a shot right?"
"And you've given me permission?"
"I suppose I have, yes. Now go and rescue her!" I said, watching him take two steps at a time, and start talking to her. If there was one thing Charlie wasn't, it was shy. He never had issues with going up to girls, and for once I was kind of thankful.
As they walked down the staircase, I moved back over to Nate and he put his arm around me. He kissed my forehead, and asked me if I could be anymore perfect. I looked up and kissed him on the lips.
"Well, I could be you" I replied, smiling and kissing him again.
