-TIFFANY-
"Oh my darling! You look magnificent!" my mother said, inhaling strongly. I stepped out of my bedroom, with Vera Wang following swiftly behind me, carrying my train. She'd hand delivered my dress earlier this morning, and had stayed to make any final adjustments. Secretly, I knew she loved the whole wedding fiasco, and having one of the world's most famous dress designers dressing me was quite an experience! "You really do!" Mollie said, her jaw dropped too. "Do you think Nate'll like it?" I asked nervously. "Sweetie, I think he'd still think you were gorgeous if you arrived in a Juicy Couture track suit" Mollie said, making Vera and I laugh. "How does it feel on? Do we need to adjust at all?" Vera asked me, whipping out a needle and some white cotton. "It's a little big around the stomach" I said, feeling a pang of nostalgia as I remembered having my fitting when I was pregnant. "Oh god, I'm so sorry" she said. "Take it off and I'll stitch it tighter. Why don't you do makeup now and we'll put the dress back on?" she said, her voice deeply apologetic. "It's fine, don't worry. And yeah that sounds good. Ready M?" I asked, walking into my bedroom whilst my mom and Vera spoke further. "Can I surprise you with your makeup?" Mollie asked as we shut the door. "I'm going fresh faced and minimalistic, remember. Luckily I trust you not to give me purple cheeks or anything!" I said, wondering across to Nate's wardrobe in only my white La Perla underwear. I pulled out one of his shirts, took in its rich scent, then tied it into a dress. "He won't mind if I get makeup on his shirt?" Mollie asked, already pulling out her brushes. "He'll deal with it" I said, stroking the crisp material and imagining it was Nate. "You really do miss him, don't you?" "I do. So much. I can't stop thinking about him, I just want to be married already!" "You've only got 3 hours until you will be! I'd count your blessings if I were you! At least you have someone who wants to be with you" "Mol, I know you won't listen to me, but I really think you and Charlie should try again. You were the best couple, and I just wish you'd both realise how much you love each other" "We're the second best couple" she said, gliding her makeup brush along my cheeks "We were never going to be the best couple with you and Nate around! I don't know though, I feel like I don't have the energy to try, you know?" "I do. But I also know that that feeling is love. Don't let it go to waste" I said, closing my eyes as she began to apply eyeshadow. "You know, you'd make the best inspirational speaker. Maybe that's why you were chosen as head girl instead of me" "Mollie, we both know the only reason they chose me over you is the pity. So don't say that, because it was such a tight competition. I'm sure we can sort something out; how would you fancy being my deputy?" "Sounds very official! What would it entail?" "Well, I'm going to be tied up doing wifey things, like cleaning and ironing, so I'll need someone I can rely on to do my job when I can't" "That really does sound great, thank you! But I'm not sure you'll ever do the cleaning..." "Hey! You never know, I might turn into a proper housewife in a few years!" "Again, I highly doubt that! You're too fabulous to do that all day long" "Thank you. I'll take that as a compliment!" I said, opening my eyes as she began to sweep the mascara wand over my eyelashes. From outside, I heard someone knock on the door, and my mother answered. "Mrs V! Come in" "Where is she?" Mrs V said excitedly. "Getting her makeup done, she'll have her dress on any minute now. Would you like to wait with us?" "Yes please! I've got a little guest who came to see me too" "Who?" my mom replied. "Nathaniel, you can come in. It's safe!" I heard his footsteps on the hall floor, and I also heard Vera rush into another room with my dress as she saw him. "Nate, why aren't you getting ready? You can't possibly get married in your running kit?" my mother said to him "I know, I'll go in a minute. I just wanted to check she was alright. I know I can't see her, but I wanted to make sure she was happy and well" "Darling, you've been apart for about 12 hours, she's totally fine. Now, you need to go! It's bad luck you know!" "Tell her I love her" "I will. See you at the church!" My heart leapt, and I found myself rushing off the chair and out of my bedroom door, hoping to find Nate still waiting. I expected him to be in his tight fitting running kit, still jogging lightly on the spot to keep his heart rate up, his iPod strapped firmly to his bicep. I would go over, and kiss him, reminding both of us of what it felt like to embrace each other again, after what felt like an eternity apart. But as I rushed outside, the door was clicking shut, and Nate had already begun to run down all the flights of stairs. "Tiffany! You almost saw him!" my mother called out, walking towards me. "Will I be able to catch him?" "Maybe, but you're not going to" "But I miss him so much, mom. I need to see him!" "I know, I know. But in less than 3 hours you'll be saying vows to each other. Stay strong until then, alright?" "Okay" I said, sulking off back into my room, allowing Mollie to apply the finishing touches to my makeup.
