-NATE-

"So how are you feeling?" Charlie asked me as we walked along Fifth.

"Excited. I don't know why people get so nervous, it's one of the most exciting things ever!"

"I'll quote that back tomorrow!" Charlie said "You'll be nervous, I know it"

"So what?" I said, smiling. "I'm happy. And it's hard for me to say that after what's happened, but I think I finally am"

"Good, I'm glad. Look, I'm really sorry about not being there when, you know."

"It's alright, don't worry about it" I said, knowing he was referring to the miscarriage. "Sorry, can I get this?" I said, pulling out my phone.

Tiffany was calling me, which I guessed was only a call to tell me she missed me or something. I answered eagerly, wanting to hear her beautiful voice again.

"Hello beautiful" I said, smiling.

"Something's gone wrong" she said, her voice sounding full of anger and resent.

"What? Talk to me" I predicted it would be something petty, like the flowers being the wrong kind, or the wrong size, so I decided to take whatever came light heartedly.

"My father has decided not to attend"

"What?!" I said, after almost spitting out my mouthful of Coke. I suppose it was shocking because I'd lowered my expectations, but this really was the final straw with her family.

"He's said he isn't happy with me getting married, so he doesn't want to be involved"

"Oh baby, I'm so sorry. Is Mollie still with you?"

"Yeah, and my mother. I'll be fine. I just had to tell you that I'm absolutely livid"

"I understand, are you sure you don't want me to come over?"

"I really do... But I know you shouldn't"

"I can, seriously I'm not really doing anything now"

"No, you shouldn't. I'll see you at the alter" she said, the sadness and loneliness fading from her voice and being replaced by determination.

"Ask Will to walk you down the aisle" I suggested, knowing he was the next best thing.

"We're way ahead of you, don't worry!"

"Okay, have a lovely night. I love you"

"I love you too" and with that, she hung up on me, leaving me angry to the core.

"What's happened?" Charlie asked, noticing my anger.

"Tiffany's father won't come to the wedding. I need to go and sort this out" I said, changing direction and heading down towards the financial district, where I knew I'd find her father hiding behind his big desk, piles of money surrounding him, but not an ounce of fatherly love.
