-TIFFANY-
"Hey Ellie" I said, down the phone to my half sister.
"Tiffany, is everything okay? We're seeing you later, what's wrong?"
"I've got some great news for you" I said, as Nate intertwined his fingers with mine. We were sat on a bench in Central Park, over looking the Reservoir. It was a few blocks North of the new apartment, but sitting here was amazing, and I knew I'd be doing it so much more often.
"And?" she said, sounding quite nervous.
"Well we've bought one of the apartments!"
"Really? Which one?" she said, sounding almost as excited as I did.
"The one you told us to go round fifth"
"Oh Tiffany, that one was so perfect! The one on Madison Avenue?"
"Yeah, we just couldn't resist it!" I said, squeezing Nate's hand and looking across at him.
"That was the most expensive one though, how did you split the money?" she said, inevitably.
"We payed for 100%. Well, I say 'we', but Nate paid"
"What? I thought we were splitting it?"
"Well its up to you, you can either pay an exuberant amount to part own it or you can pay little bits of rent. And by little, we mean really little, just to cover the electricity you use. We've discussed it, and we know you both love travelling, so this way you're not tied down to something when you'd rather drift in and out"
"That sounds so perfect! But I've already promised you I'll be there for every step of this pregnancy, so I will" she said, sounding absolutely sure.
"You really don't have to, that's about 7 months you know?"
"I know, I did pay attention in Biology"
"Good, so you don't want to be stuck here watching me over eat for 7 months. We'll discuss this later, but we both think this is the best solution for you"
"Okay fine, but I'm so over the moon you've got somewhere!"
"So am I! Oh Ellie, it's so perfect! Thank you"
"Don't thank me, thank your boyfriend!"
"Oh trust me, I will!" I said, looking across at him again.
"I'll see you at 7pm, we're meeting at Butter right?"
"I think so yes, do you have a reservation?" I said, already thinking about calling up as she wouldn't have one.
"Tiffany, you're a Vogue cover star now. I don't think you need to make reservations" she said, making me suddenly realise that I was. That magazine was out today, and no doubt the edition had been sent to The Hamptons.
"Got to go, bye!" I said, standing up and rushing towards 5th Avenue.
"Where are you going?" Nate said as I dragged him along behind me.
"Newsstand" I said, picking up the pace.
Then it must have dawned on him too, because he ran faster.
When we reached the nearest newsstand, we froze in shock as we saw the magazine on the front row. A Chinese woman was picking one up, and handing over the money for it, before looking at the cover and smiling at the romantic scene before her. She thanked the vendor, and turned around, almost crashing into us.
"Oh my..." she began, looking like she was about to faint. I smiled at her, and she held up the magazine "This is you?!"
"It would appear so" Nate said, putting his arm around my shoulders.
"Can I have it signed please?" she said, pulling out a pen from her bag.
"Sure" I said, taking the pen and signing above my head, before Nate did the same.
"Thank you" she said, snapping a quick photo of us before scuttling off to post it on the Internet.
I stood frozen for a second, not quite believing what was happening. "Better get used to this baby, that was one woman out of everyone in the whole world"
"I can't believe this is happening!" I said, grabbing a copy and handing over the money.
"Hey" the vendor said in a heavy New Jersey accent "Fancy signing a few of those?"
He handed us a pile of six, and we obliged, scribbling away at the front covers.
A small crowd had gathered around us, recognising us as the cover stars of this month's Vogue, and when they saw the signed copies, they ran towards us, throwing dollar bills towards the vendor so they could snap up an exclusive copy.
"Let's go" Nate whispered to me amongst the anarchy. We began running out of the masses of people, back towards the bench in the Park, only stopping when we were off those crazy streets.
"Would you say we're celebrities now?" I said, clutching my copy.
"I would say we are, yes!"
