-NATE-
I'm engaged. She's got the ring to prove it so it's real.
That was all I could think about while we were walking down to Tiffany's mother's house. She was dressed in a knee length white dress, which was very Grecian, with a pleated single shoulder. It was tight enough to be elegant and attractive without looking trashy, and she looked beautiful. I'd got the ring in my pocket, knowing that would be a bit of a shock for her mother, but she was wearing the other one of her birthday presents: I'd given her a gold bracelet from Frey Wille with the word 'LOVE' printed on it in colourful swirls. It looked perfect with her white dress, and seeing her in white kept reminding me that in a few months time I'll see her coming up the aisle in that exact colour.
"Hello mother" Tiffany said, kissing her mother on both cheeks. She'd come to the gates to greet us; and I mean both of us. She even brought me in for a fragile hug. I smiled and greeted her too, before being led inside.
"Sit down both of you" she said, gesturing to the plumped couch in front of us. We sat down side by side, and Tiffany's mother stood in front of us.
"Now, you probably already know what your present is" she began "But I've bought you another one too" she said, pulling a Bergdorf Goodman bag out from behind the coffee table. "Open it" she said, in a warm tone that I hadn't heard before.
As Tiffany carefully unravelled the tissue paper from around her gift, she inhaled quickly and sharply. "Mother this is beautiful!"
She pulled it out of the bag, revealing a floral dress, it looked like it was moulded for a girl like Tiffany. Personally, I didn't see it. I thought all the clothes that Tiffany chose were more beautiful but she was obviously pleased.
"It's Erdem" her mother interjected, looking rather pleased with herself.
"It's gorgeous!" Tiffany said, putting it back into the bag and standing up to hug her mother.
"And here's your second present" she said, handing over a small envelope, which was sealed with the family emblem. The envelope had obviously been prepared for a while, as it was going slightly yellow and stained, but I knew that wasn't what was on Tiffany's mind.
She peeled the envelope open slowly and pulled out the letter that was inside. I couldn't see what was written on it, as I was sat at an awkward angle, but I could tell by the expression on Tiffany's face that she was pleased.
"What is it?" I said, acting dumb to what was happening.
"It's her trust fund" her mother answered, her eyes never leaving her daughter.
"All $45 million's worth" she said, looking up at me in shock.
"Ellie didn't take hers, and Will had a smaller one so we thought we'd really spoil our little girl" she said, walking over to come and sit next to us.
"Thank you so so much!" Tiffany said, enveloping her mother in one of the tightest hugs I'd ever seen Tiffany give her mother. I thought her mother was going to snap, but instead she began to cry a little.
"This means you can raise your child well and you can have a perfect wedding" she said, smiling across at us.
"How did you find out?" I said suddenly, protecting my bride.
"Your mother told me, Nathaniel"
"Oh" I said, silenced slightly.
"I'm sorry you didn't feel you could tell me. You know I wouldn't ever drive you away if you told me something as serious as this" her mother said, bringing me in for a hug too.
And before I knew it, we were planning a multi million dollar wedding with her mother. I can safely say I didn't envisage that when I woke up this morning.
