I thought I understood love
Until I looked into my baby's eyes
So full of wonder and surprise
Innocent and helpless
Totally dependant for their life
I knew then for this tiny
Person I would die
His tiny finger wrapped around my hand
Fiercely protective of my angel now
My life would change forever
In a single heartbeat
He became everything
Pure and true to me
A reason why god placed
Me on this earth
A part of me to live on
In this world when I
Am gone
I watch him grow
I burst with pride at every
Milestone
But am fearful of what's ahead for him
For now he is my life
And I shall guide him
Best I can love him
Protect him
Until I breathe my last breath
But wherever I am wherever I go I'll be by
His side in the wind
That kisses his cheeks
In the stars that shine above him
I'll only ever be a step behind him
