This week I meandered down a deserted beach facing the north sea. It was exposed and desolate in the most stunning way. The waves crashed beneath the cotton-wool smothered sky and the sun shone in beautiful intervals. Our steps, however, were delayed every minute or so by a discovery of yet another semi-precious stone. The gasps of excitement and awe from the children was perfect and one couldn't help but smile.

One little girl had an unsaid mission to find as many 'heart' shaped stones as she possibly could...the reality was, there were so many. I was shocked at just quite how many there were.

I've seen that my friendships are a lot those stones. They're there, if your willing to really look and hunt. All different in their own way and all precious. The place is full of hearts willing to shine out and provide you with that gift of a gasp of delight.

The one thing we have to do in return is make sure we treasure them just like that little girl did...carry them to the bitter end of the journey, no matter how much they weighed down her pocket. She wasn't leaving that beach without them.

I'm thankful for my friends and their preciousness...I hope I ensure they don't fall out of my pocket.
