The beast made a snap at the slab of meat in her hand. She was grateful it was the meat it was making a grab at, and not her, like what had happened when she first discovered the gargantuan animal. "Stop that!" Jen scolded, "what you need is a sense of patience." She talked to it as if it was another person, as if it could understand her. In a way it could. It read the emotions that flickered across Jen's pale face like an open book, deciphering every movement. "You should be grateful, Danny gave this hunk o' flesh to me at a discount, being that I'm his number one customer. He thinks I'm crazy, constantly buying this stuff, and rightfully so." The animal purred with approval as it swiftly inhaled its meal, bones and all. Its wings twitched as it rolled over playfully, ready for Jen to entertain it. "Not now. I have company coming over, and I need to prepare myself. Imagine, greeting my guests smelling of raw meat and animal feces." Jen walked up the stone steps and shut the door to the bomb shelter behind her. The beast had become her best friend. Jen thought about this as she made the walk home through the bright forest.
