12 April 2012

Flying across a velvet sky, I feel calm, peaceful. My sigh reverberates gently through the sapphire ocean beneath me, it's surface throbbing with the song of the waves.

I float on a gentle breeze, swaying on its violet tendrils, reaching out to stop me falling. I float towards a hazel sun, it lures me in with it's intensity, it's sound. A strange sound, a shouted whisper. It's telling me something, I can here it getting closer louder. It says..

"AMBER!"

I open my eyes and see the piercing hazel eye of Jonathan.

Jonathan and I never got on. Thinking about it, I never get on with anyone, I've never been a social person. Always the one without a friend, the strange one .

But Jonathan's the worst, he doesn't like me and I don't like him. I'm the freak and he's exploited that fact since I first came here.

I jump down from my perch on the old oak and start to walk home. I say home. I mean the horrible care home I've been in my whole life.

I don't remember my parents, they left me in a small cave when I was very young. Apparently they found me huddled in the corner with a single gold broach that I wouldn't let go of. There's nothing special about the broach, it's just a circle of metal with a carved fire bird inside it. I've been told its called a Phoenix.

I took the broach out of my pocket and clutched it to my ribcage, right over my heart, feeling its beat pulsate through my body as they found me doing in the cave, as I have done every day, of every week, of every year of my entire life.

I held it to my heart, and screamed.
