INT. Kitchen - midday
This is a dream sequence, which took place about 4 years earlier. The man's wife burst through the door, screaming at a young man. In the corner we see a puppy which is Karl.
The man's wife
Shut up! Shut up! I can't stand this anymore.
The man's wife grabbed a butter knife on the counter and turned around until she was facing him. We notice the man has got an army uniform on.
Man
You know I have to do this, it's for the family.
The man points at her bump.
THE MAN'S WIFE
Don't pretend that's the reason, if you really cared you'd stay to look after OUR family.
At that very instant the man's wife walked out and slammed the door shut
Jump cut to:
EXT. UNDER A Pier - MIDDAY
The man jumps out of his dream. Dreams and reality were merging into one at this point. Little food and water would be the main causes. The man decides to walk to the water to gather some for there journey today. As he nears the water he hears 'The Rats' approaching. A group of savage men who had resorted to cannibalism, to survive. The man drops his water bottle and rushes back to the fire to rescue Karl.
MAN
(whisper)
Karl! Karl! Here boy!
Karl's ears prick up and he looks bemused at his owner. By this time the man had reached Karl.
MAN
We gotta go boy! The end of the world is above us!
