At this moment in time creationism is taught widespread In uk public schools, and depending on the state and type of school it is taught in america, but should it?

My inspiration for this opinionated is a biology essay for GCSE with the same title that I had to write

The main point I have for it not to be taught in schools is that darwins theory of evolution is a scientifically backed up theory, backed up by a massive fossil record and gene study and it is therefore a scientific fact

But however I also believe that highschools should have the rights to decide that it will teach a balanced approach to science in general, and specifically Darwin's theory of evolution. This can best be summed up in the words, "Teach the controversy".

Both the creationist theory and the evolutionary theory have their loopholes, gaps and strong points but I haven't quite made up my mind on wether creationism shouldn't be taught.

To talk about this Is similar to talking about wether abstinence only sex education and multiple religions should or shouldn't be taught, it is a very complex argument to get into, especially as we live in a very diverse and open society.

So what do you think, should creationism be taught in schools or should only evolution be taught, shouldwe teach both?
