"TEXAS SCHOOL TO PUNISH STUDENTS WHO REFUSE TO BE TRACKED WITH MICROCHIPS'

Since october 1, students at John jay high school in San antonio texas have been asked to attend class with radio frequency identification chips (RFID) to track every pupils location.

But is this right?

In this opuss I will look at both the positives and negatives of this, and explain my opinion on the matter.

So the pros of RFID's and tracking are as follows.

1. It will reduce truancy levels. When you can trace where a child is at all times means that truancy figures would plummet

2. Reduction of anti-social behaviour or bullying. If a child is tracked they would have to be out of their minds to go out and graffiti or bully another student, as they can be tracked to where they were and at what time, similar to the ict system at my school.

3. Tracking can help schools know which areas of school and it's grounds are being used the most, and inject extra funding into the development of those areas.

And the cons are as follows.

1. Serious invasion of privacy. The idea of the system knowing where you are constantly is a rather scary idea, this could also cause serious problems if parents have the right to access the data.

2. The cost. RFIDs aren't cheap, they cost between 18 and 21 pence per person, plus excess costs for the instillation, monitoring, repairs and usage of the system.

3. They have to be on the person to track that person, what stops a student from leaving the card in their lockers or giving them to another student, this renders the use of an RFID system pointless.

And in my opinion I don't belive they should I understand the advantages of the system, but I belive that they could try something different and less invasive and get the same result.

I would not want my school to be able to track me, it would be like some terrible sci-fi movie, and that's just as stupid as it sounds.

Thanks for reading, leave your opinions in the comments.
