Chapter 2 SOCIAL LIFE:
"Ha! Cleo! Those people are staring at you!" Dan chuckled. I glanced up at a group of amazing students, all very young looking, however still my age. I bowed my head deeply in embarrassment. "Oh god....thats different. I never been stared at before. I'm not sure if I like it or not..." I muttered, glancing up once more at the people, who two of them now looked worried. The two girls, both pretty and perfect. One with her African-American features, so beautiful looking as they stood out amongst her paranoid eyes. Her hair in a lovely braid, revealing high cheekbones. Although the other was a different skin tone, the two girls acted as if they were twins. The pale girl moved cautiously around on the wooden seat she sat on, her bright eyes flicking up every now and then towards Cleo, with her black as night waves, resting casually below her shoulders. Vicky nudged Lola "Look Lol, the freaks are staring at Cleo." "The freaks?" I questioned "Yeah." Lola began "They're a bunch of children, fostered, it's kinda long story. I'll tell you later, but the ones with the scared faces...the African-American one, she's called Naima, very pretty. And the pale one, she's called Ruby. She always wears a real ruby gem in the centre of her necklace, very pretty as well." she finished, quickly. This was a lot for me to take in, in a way they all looked familiar to me. "I think I've seen them before." I gasped "Oh really, because they lived Switzerland before they came here a year ago." "Switzerland? And now here? Wow, they must like cold, dull places." Sam finally said. "Does this place ever get warm-ish? Does the sun ever come out?" I pondered. Mark looked up from his work "It does get warm sometimes, and yeah, it can get sunny. But not very often. Why?" "Oh no big reason, just that I like to got walking in to forest sometimes." Immediately after I said that, all of the so called 'freaks' jolted their heads towards me, like they were hooked onto my every word. After we all finished our homework, we strolled into the busy dining hall. "This is the cafeteria." Dan explained sarcastically. "Haha(!)" I mumbled, helping myself to a plate. All of my friends rushed ahead towards the hot food, whilst I stayed around the salad bar. Even though I thought myself as average height, I felt tiny. Everyone just got themselves a bowl-which was on top of the salad bar- but I-I couldn't reach. I felt so stupid, as if I was the only person in this school who couldn't reach a salad bowl, I probably was. "Here," a familiar voice said, giving me a bowl, with no effort at all. "Um...thanks..I-I'm not very tall.." "Your a nice height, Cleo," the voice said softly. I looked up at the sound of my name, to the face of beauty...
