My tale is a short, slightly tear jerking one about how sometimes. despite how much of a cynic you are, people can really surprise you.

I begin this tale in a bus. The good old reliable Number 118 bus that I took home from school most days to be exact. The huge lump of metal came to a grinding halt which had me thrown forward a couple of feet- I was too proud a person to hold onto the bars. I quickly thanked the driver and stepped on the pavement. Unfortunately I wasn't home just yet. I started to walk along the road to the stop lights, the only place I could cross the road without being hit by a psychotic taxi driver, and as I arrived I waved at the bus driver passing by. In doing so my gaze was still on the bus as it went past me and found myself looking completely to my left at an old woman, mouthing something which I couldn't hear through my headphones. I reached into my pocket and paused my music and asked the lady to repeat what she said.

What she said shocked me.

'You have very beautiful eyes' she said again, smiling.

I, being the eloquent thing that I am mumbled a few times before I managed to blurt out a 'thank you'. No one had ever said such a thing too me.

'No one has ever said that too me' I replied, as we started walking across the road. I could feel myself starting to smile after a difficult day.

'You have a beautiful smile too, to match those pretty eyes'

I slowed down my pace, this was an elderly woman I was with, to take a look at this kind woman. She was very short, her blue eyes shone brightly against her wrinkled pale skin. Her white hair, curly.

'Thank you' I said again, unsure if my sincerity was showing. Why was this stranger being so kind?

As we turned to the left on the other side of the road, the woman told me something else.

'I see things through Gods eyes. When that bus went past me, God told me to turn to the side and look at your beautiful eyes'.

That was what made me stop and think.

We parted ways and the woman scurried into the Laundrette as I continued up the road to my house, thinking only one thing...maybe not all people are bad...
