10 June 2012

Monday came around and I had no enthusiasm for life at all. I wanted to crawl under the covers, curl up and never come out.

The only reason I forced myself to get up and go to school was so no-one got hurt in my place.

I got to school and met Florence, and we went to form. So far everything seemed normal other than the tension I could feel in the air. Everyone was looking at me as I walked along from lesson to lesson. People silenced their conversations as I passed them. It was as if they knew something was going to happen that I didn't. Florence could feel it too. It came to lunch time and still nothing had happened. Until I stepped into the playground. "here she is! Oh Abby, we've all been waiting..." Sarah shrilled gesturing at the small audience. Every single one of them looked like they wanted to run a mile. Nobody wanted anything to do with Sarah. "come a little closer dear." she waggled her finger at me. I stepped forwards slowly. "come on now, don't be scared..." she teased. I raised one of my eyebrows. "the only thing in scared of is injuring you." I retorted bluntly. She shrieked out laughing. It was such an awful twisted laugh I froze mid step. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath, repeating my usual ritual before a fight. I found it hard to focus today. Sarah cackled again, and I sensed someone coming up behind me at a rapid pace. I swung around and blocked the blow, but as I was doing so Sarah grabbed ahold of my hair and pulled down violently, I yelped as a soaring pain burned through my scalp. I threw my arm in the air and chopped down sharply onto the soft part of her arm just above her wrist of the hand she had hold of me by. A loud cracking noise. Sarah dropped to her knees screaming and holding her arm close to her body. "I think you broke my arm you little bitch!!" she cried out. Big Dave appeared from somewhere behind me and swept Sarah up of the floor, carrying her into the main building in his arms. Florence hurried up to me in a fluster. "oh god, what have you done?!" she exclaimed "nothing! She had hold of my hair, it was self defence!" "You are going to be in so much trouble!!" she took my arm and led me inside. "where are we going?" Florence didn't stop, or even slow her pace. "to the heads office. That's where you'll be called anyway, so why not just go straight there." she seemed really mad. "Florence, please, I didn't do anything wrong!" I was pleading with her now. She was one of my only friends I'd ever had in life, and now I feared loosing her. She sighed and pulled to a stop. "I'm not mad at you, I'm mad at Sarah. This was a set up. Can't you tell? Thais is what she meant by dealing with you." she pulled me into a quick hug before continuing to drag me through the corridors. We finally came to the head masters office, and Florence led me over to a small cluster of chairs outside. "we wait here." she stated "woah, we? I don't want you getting involved in this! I don't want you to get into trouble, you didn't do anything!" A smile crept onto her face. "I won't get in trouble, I'm simply a witness." oh, she was clever. She had this all planned out...

We waited for about 15 minutes before I was finally called in, quizzed like a criminal and then sent back out to wait while they talked to Florence. I sat there for another 20 minutes waiting, before Florence shuffled out from the office. They called me back inside and sat me in a chair opposite the head master. The room was quite small, there was a large cabinet up one wall, and a window that went across the whole back wall. The headmaster had a massive wooden desk, situated in the middle of the room with a small gold nameplate on the front showing his name. The headmaster was sat in a giant swivel chair, that looked like it was made from leather. He spun round to face me, perched on the small bare wooden chair. "I am afraid we are going to have to suspend you for two weeks due to putting martial arts into practice on school grounds, and causing another student to be injured. We are sorry miss Hodgetts." he spoke with regret. I knew he didn't want to do this, but I also knew arguing wouldn't help me at all. I nodded and told him I understood, before he signalled it was okay for me to leave. I rose from the chair and left the office, clicking the door shut behind me. Florence was stood waiting for me, looking agitated. "it's not good news is it?" her eyes dropped to the floor "suspended. For two weeks." Florence looked completely distraught. "I'm sorry... I really tried, but Sarah always gets her way..." "it's okay, let's get to lesson now." Florence nodded quickly and we walked away from the seating area.

The rest of the day went by pretty fast, and finally the last bell rang out. I was walking out of the gate with Florence, Lewis and Jack, when Lewis suggested we go to the park for a bit. Everyone agreed eagerly being as I wasn't going to see them for a while this seemed like a good idea. I sent my dad a quick text letting him know my plan and we all headed to the park. We were walking along a quiet alleyway when a voice made us all jump. "oh Abby, I'm so sorry... I really didn't want you to be excluded, I should have never pulled your hair! Please forgive me?" we all turned to face Sarah, who was stood there with her hand outstretched. The one that wasn't broken obviously. I eyed her up and was rather impressed with myself. I had knocked a guy out with one chop, and now broken someone's arm. What an achievement. I took a step towards her and accepted her hand. I took a breath in to speak but was interrupted by scuffled footsteps coming from behind me. I was about to spin on my heel when someone wrapped their arm around me, pinning my own arms to my side. Another hand clamped over my nose and mouth, smothering me with a cloth. It was a trap. I should have known. My vision was darkening and my muscles growing weak. I lost consciousness.
