The next day I woke up grumpily knowing that I would have to face my group of confused friends. I did my usual routine, breakfast, clothes, hair and teeth, bus. I put my headphones on again, and waited outside for the bus. I closed my eyes and started to sing along to supermassive black hole. I heard the bus stop and I jumped on, Luke was at the back as usual, I walked over to him and felt eyes of students following me. I sat down and closed my eyes again and sang quietly
"you know people might think your mad?" laughed Luke
"hmm mmmh" I mumbled as Nick Cave came on to the iPod, after a few minutes of my fingers being grasped around Luke's I broke apart and brushed my hair with my fingers. The best part of the song came on and I started singing again forgetting people could still hear me
"you have a nice voice" said Luke taking my hand back, I opened my eyes sleepily
"thanks, but it's not"
"it is, but don't sing on the bus, people stare" I laughed
"thanks for the tip, you know you should probably make friends with my friends"
"hmm I dunno, have you noticed they hate me?"
"have you noticed we used to be arch enemy's?"
"well were defiantly not anymore" he said brushing my lips against his. When we got to school I turned off my iPod and strolled out towards the huddle of people. I felt Luke not far behind me.
"hey guys!" I said jumping on them as usual
"hey..." they all said glumly
"what's wrong?" I asked, they didn't reply so I knew I had a chance to try out my mind powers
Ash- Harmony's gonna change with him around...
Aden- I hate that guy dont see why she like him...
Helen- she always gets the good ones
Jenny- act normal here she is
I frowned maybe I didn't like my powers so much?
"guys you ok?" I asked
"yeah, it's just Luke" whispered Ash
"what about him?" I felt suddenly protective
"he's not good for you"
"how do you know? You fancy my mum"
"shut up" he joked. I went and pulled Luke into the circle, they all glared at him
"guys forgive him, he's ok really" I said taking Luke's hand
"yeah right, he's been the bully for years" snapped Aden, Luke laughed at this
"look, I know you probably think I'm stealing Harmony but I'm not so don't worry" he said his voice calming, everyone seemed to relax except from Aden
"I dunno, your not a good guy" Aden said "I don't see why Harmony's going for a stuck up guy like you" he snapped at him while glaring at me
"Aden, don't he's probably fine" said Helen putting her hand on his shoulder, he shrugged her off and stormed off towards Zac who kept eyeing me curiously
"what's up with him?" I asked
"he's just annoyed that's all" said Jenny calmly
"I don't blame him, hes right you know this guys bad" said Ash,
"come on dude! Luke's nice and I want you guys to get along" I pleaded
"no thanks" said Ash as he walked away, I felt a heat building in my chest, my best friends were leaving because of my boyfriend? Luke put his arm around me and we walked over to Jim and Jake Helen and Jenny excitedly hurrying behind,
"hey guys" Luke said to Jim and Jake (JJ from now on!) they both had bruises on there faces from where I had kicked them
"heh sorry" I said pointing at Jake's face which was practically purple
"no problem, your a tough cookie" said Jake punching me in the arm harder than expected but I hardly felt it,
"umm we better get to class Harmony see ya later" said Jenny walking towards class with Helen I waved goodbye
"shouldn't we go too?" I asked
"don't worry 'bout it they never notice your gone" said Jim
"oh ok" I said sitting down on the grass. Jake pulled out a piece of paper from his pocket, he saw me looking at it
"test results from the heads office" he said smiling "shit" he said quietly I thought he had a bad result but when I looked over to him he held up his thumb indicating a paper cut. A fiery pain ripped through my throat as I smelt the blood, I hadn't eaten last night so I was thirsty, I had gone to long it had been two weeks now since the taste of blood. I felt the pain in my throat reaching my mouth, I tried to block out the scent but it was very powerful.
"what's wrong?" asked Luke staring at me confused, I caught the scent of his blood. Oh god, it smelt good, he was so close I could just kill him quickly but I couldn't. I had to get away, I got up quickly and turned to the forest humming trying to block out my senses.
"where you going?" shouted Luke as I ran into the forest, I quickly caught the scent of a deer, it was close my hunting instincts got the better of me and I ran towards the deer and caught it swiftly. My new power jolted awake, suffer or quick? Quick of course it wouldn't feel anything as I sunk my teeth into its flesh.
After I had finished I felt angry with myself, I said I wouldn't but I failed badly. I sat down glumly and put my head in my hands, something behind me stirred and I looked around quickly, standing by a bush looking scared was a feeble looking fawn. The deer I killed was its mother the one from last night, I sighed even more annoyed now. I crawled over to the skinny fawn, it stared at me scared at the sight of a killer
"don't worry I won't hurt you" I cooed softly, it was like it could understand me it's muscles relaxed
"come on come to me" I said gently, it moved towards me slowly, when it reached me I held out my hand and stroked it on the nose. It nuzzled against me and I picked it up gently
"dont worry I'll look after you from now" I said, it was like a baby in my arms, it hardly weighed anything! I carried it into the opening and saw that Luke and his gang had gone, I sighed in relief as I walked towards the path home
"it's ok, you'll be safe with me" I said smoothing the fawns head
"I'll call you Tessa!" I said happily, Tessa was my grans name, she died a few months ago,
"little Tessa the deer" I said proudly, I thought I heard it say back
" I like that name" but of course that was impossible.
