Chapter 2: Can I come? *^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*
(Sorry it's so late!)
I wake up from my uncomfortable sleep and rub my eyes, there's no point in wearing makeup if your running away. A few mumbles from inside Josh's small house appear, I lean against the door so that Annie (his Mum) won't see me. She doesn't like me much, she calls me a bad influence! The stain glass door opens and I ca just see the back of Josh. "Have a good day Hun. Don't listen to those bullies." His Mum says making a kiss noise against Josh's cheek. I bite my lip holding in a snigger until I can taste blood. "See ya Mum." Grumbles Josh, "Stay away from that Ruby girl. She no good for you." Josh gives a little teenagery grunt and closes the door behind him as he steps out onto the pavement. I jump up from my little hiding place and scream at Josh. He jumps in shock and eventually laughs along with me, "Mornin' Rubes" he says hugging me. "Come on." I say, we walk in the direction of school until Josh stops and looks me up and down. "What?" I ask frowning, "Clothes?" He says pointing a finger at me, "Oh long story mate." I laugh swinging my arm around Josh's shoulder. "We've got a long time?" He urges. "Fine, well I'm running away. Slept outside your house last night, just thought I'd tell you. You are my best friend and all." I smile. There a long silence. "That wasn't long" says Josh, I laugh at him and do that baby cheek thing. "Is that it?" "Yeah. Why are you running away Rubes?" "You know I hate my life. I don't want to be punched in the stomachs every night by Dad do I?" "I guess.... I'm coming with you." He exclaims smiling down at me, "No way." "Why not? We could be a team. We'd be unstoppable!" I turn it over in my mind, maybe I should say yes? It would be nice to have my best friend with me. "Fine. Just don't tell anyone ok?" I sigh. "Ok. All the girls at school will be in mourning." He says smugly, "Not likely." I mumble to myself, Josh slings his arm over my shoulder so that we're joined at the arms. Me and Josh have been best friends pretty much all our lives since primary, I can trust him with more than my life. I was joking about the girls not mourning, they defiantly will be. Josh is one of those boys you might get on a Hollister bag, or playboy magazine. He is perfect in almost every way. I've never had 'get in my bed' feelings for him, I wouldn't want to ruin our friendship. Josh is a few inches taller than me, sandy blonde hair that hangs lazily over his forehead, archer bow red lips, deep brown eyes and a very very (very very) muscular figure. Not one of those pumped up freaks, he looks hot. "I've got to say one more goodbye" I say to Josh as we turn into the school gates. "One thing Rubes. I know you don't like this kinda stuff, but if we're running away together potentially living together. Wanna be my girl?" He asks facing me and placing both his hands on my shoulders, I can sense all the other girls ,that are waiting out side, eyes focusing on us ,jealous. "What do you mean?" I ask regretting saying he could come with me. "Well we act like a couple anyway! What's the point of just being friends when we could-well be more." We says frowning deep into my eyes. "Because I've been your friend since birth, I don't want to ruin it." I say quietly looking at my hands. There's an awkward silence Josh just sighs and squeezes my shoulders, "Fine. Just remember that I'm always waiting." He mumbles walking away. "Josh! I need your help with this goodbye!!" I shout across the school grounds. Josh shuffles back over to me and raises his eyebrows, "Only if you say yes." He mumbles smiling slightly, "That's blackmail!" I laugh. "Hmm... I guess it is. Oh well!" "Fine only if this goodbye works. I've got a time limit and I can't help messing this up, get it?" "Fine. What do I need to do?" I smile smugly and pull some stuff out of my bag. My grey beanie, bright red lipstick, fake moustache, and sunglasses. "Put then on. And put your coat on, your going undercover!" "Nu-uh. I'm not putting lipstick or anything on." "Please?" I beg grasping onto his shoulders and rubbing my thumbs around his neck, "Nope. Try all you like, you'll have to wear it." I can't wear it! Maybe I will just have to do something he would like... (God damn it.) I put my palms either side of Josh's neck and place my lips against his. "You gotta do it now ,bozo." I mumble against his lips. His hands make their way down below my waist and I instantly pull away smiling, "What? It's more believable." He complains, "Sure... What we just did wasn't?" "No." He pouts playfully, "Still no, come on. I'll help you put all this stuff on." "Fine." We walk into the school, by now everyone's already in their first class. The corridors are deserted and you can't help but feel like someone is watching you as you walk. We get to the girls bathroom and I stand by the door. "What? I'm not going in there." Exclaims Josh shaking his head so that his hair shakes around, "Yes you are." I say sternly taking him by the arm and pulling him into the bathroom. All the walls are covered in permanent markers, people use the walls to write their thoughts and dreams. There's lots of mine but they've probably been covered up with even more graffiti. "Go on then!" I laugh at Josh who's standing hopelessly in the door way. He walks in and takes the clothes angrily from me to get dressed. I stand by the door which is the only place which hasn't got any graffiti, I pull out a crimson colours marker from my pocket and start to write in big bold capitols a message for anyone reading the door. "See ya! From Ruby Red. The bestone."
Yeah my parents are bad with names Ruby Red (Jesus cried.) "Good enough for you?" Asks Josh behind me I turn around and burst out laughing. He has his muddy green coat on, a tweet ugly hat of my Dad's, fake black moustache, shades. "No lipstick?" I laugh, "I don't know how to lipstick on I'm a guy!" "You sure 'bout that?-" I sigh and take the red lipstick from his hand. "I'll do it." I mumble pulling Josh closer to me. It's weird how much he doesn't look like Josh! I put the lipstick on his lips and smile, "Rub your lips together." I say, he does and now the costume is complete! "Wow I look like a douche." Grumbles Josh unhappily, "Yeah you do. Come on then."
We get to the reception desk next to say goodbye to my other best friend, Sapphire (Saphy -saffie-) we have been best friends since five. She's one of the prettiest girls I've ever seen, tall, slim, blonde hair, Sapphire eyes. She doesn't think she's at all pretty, who does? She's two months older than me and I'm eldest in most of my classes, she's in six form now! Anyway! Me and Josh stand at the reception desk, the lady behind it is lazily chewing on some strawberry smelling gum. She looks up at Josh (or Henry Avis) and frowns at him, "Can I help?" She asks blowing a small bubble. In a French accent Josh says, "Urrr yes, my sister- Sapphire Avis 'as forgotten 'er books. I am dropping them off for 'er." He sniffs Frenchly and smiles. "Oh right. Who's this?" She asks pointing to me, "My fiancé. She doesn't like being home alone." I kick Josh's foot behind the desk and he flinches. "You both very familiar..." She narrows her eyes at us both, "Well I 'ave a sister 'ere. She 'as a sister here- Ruby Red. They are twins!" There's an long silence until the receptionist nods and gestures towards the nearest classroom which is Sapphire's. "Merci!" Says Josh leading me by the elbow to the door. He leans against the wall while I knock on the door. The receptionist seems to have vanished so I relax a little. "Come in." Calls a stern voice.i creak open the door and see the one teacher I hate most, Mr Peerson. He absolutely hates me, would throw me in the ditch for all he cares. "Alright sir? I've come to get Saphy. I have some books for her." "Goody goody. You must be so happy to get on my nerves like you do?" He spits glaring at me, "Look, I'm not enjoying this. Saphy come here!" I call to Saphy who's sitting at the front next to me, chewing on gum. He gets up and slings her bag over her shoulder. I close the door behind us, Josh has taken his disguise off and managed to run off all the lipstick, "Hey Josh, Rubes. What d'you guys want?" She asks, "I-we wanted to say bye." Josh and Sapphire have only known each other for about a year because I only introduced them to each other then! "Bye?" Saphy asks, "Yeah. I'm running away. I camped outside Josh's last night, now he's coming with me. Just wanted to say bye." I smile weakly. "Rubes... I'm your best friend. All you can say is bye?" She says sadly. I stare at her hopelessly, "I would say lots of things if I could. We have two hours to get out the city. Bye Saphy, love you." I say hugging her. I pull away, me and Josh walk down the corridor and I look back just as we're about to walk out the glass door. Saphy's still standing there watching us with a confused expression. "Rubes! I'm coming to!" She shouts running towards us. "Knew you would" I mumble smiling smugly. I want her to come but I know it's not a good thing. "Come on then." I say, we all walk out the school and onto the road. It's surprisingly quiet for a normal Bristol morning which is good for us. "Where are we going?" Asks Saphy suddenly, "I have no idea, maybe the beach." "Great lets go!" Smiles Saphy, next to me Josh takes my hand in his, "Oh by the way Saphy, me and Josh are 'together' " I laugh, "Good going girl." Nudges Saphy.
At the end of the road I see the people that I really don't need to. The gang from last night.
