Royal Fool

"Oh, court jester, please do something new,
Better entertainment is what you need to pursue."
The puzzled clown was already worn out,
Searching for something that didn't make the king pout.

You see, the ruler had an ever-changing mind
That kept the jester on a very thin line.
One word from the king made him lean to one side,
An inch from falling, like his flaws were a crime.

He could play the flute or juggle fire,
But nothing was in the king's unsteady desire.
That silly dunce just kept on trying,
But with these demands, he was never complying.

"Oh, court jester, you've again done it wrong,
I wanted you to sing me a song."
The jester knew it would not be enough,
That his majesty's longing was just a bluff.

Still, the poor fool slowly turned around,
To create a melody that made the king's heart sing out.
He worked for a week composing the beautiful tune,
And again went to please and make him croon.

He sang in watch of that noble crown,
His dearest thoughts projected aloud.
But as he stood before the throne,
He heard the king let out a small moan.

"Oh, court jester, that's not what I wanted,
I hoped for something a little less haunted."
And the saddened jester filled with rage,
And walked out the door with this turning page.

Now I hope the court jester taught you a lesson
Of how nobody is ever worth impressing.
But if you prefer to stay on that same line,
Just know that you'll fall, it's only a matter of time.

I believe in John Lennon because he told me all I need is love, & to me that seems pretty accurate.
