Chapter 5.
We walked hands brushing as they swayed by our sides down empty streets leafs crunching underneath our old worn boots. The breeze chilled me to the bone. We strolled up And down the dark streets listening to the sounds of the night. Lingering at the thought or departing each others company or at least I was. Looking at the road and kicking up the dry leaves made me feel young again free to get my old jeans muddy, creeping through the damp house leaving muddy footprints for our mother to scrub off the dark floorboards. I looked down next to me expecting to see Frankie but she was gone. As I turned around in surprise she lying flat with her arms and legs moving up and down crunching the leafs she was staring into the sky above her. "Clay, are you coming down?" she whispered "don't worry about the leaves they are happy for thou to lie there on there cracked surface." she asked patting the ground for where I could sit. "and how do you know they don't mind me sitting there?" I said looking down at her a smile creeps along my face. "they like angels," she said shrugging and looking down, then she looked up leaf angels..." she said smiling at memy, looking me in my eyes. "oh" I said laughing, "I thought you ment...." trailed off, she grabbed my hand and pulled me down into the leafs. They crunched underneath me. "isn't it funny we only met today yet I feel like your an old friend?" she said her deep green eyes opening wide. "um.. Yeah" I spoke feeling a new confidence I had never felt before also something like a million little butterflies fluttering around in my stomach."do you like butterflies?" I asked sudey not knowing why I said it looking down into the leafs underneath me. They where not warm inside as your crunched into them a gewy sort of liquid didn't seep out, they where leafs, ordinary leafs. "yes"replied Frankie,"they are so beautiful, fluttering around, not caring what colour of there wings are. Beautiful just beautiful" "yeah I guess but I am more into the Snow Lion- "leopards"she interrupted, "snow leopards" "right, Snow Leopards well... I guess I should be getting home." I said as I was getting up. "isn't that my line?" she asked squinting as she looked up at me thou there was nothing blocking her view. "your line" I said confused "you know," she sighed"I say ' I think I should be getting home' and then you say 'let me walk you home'?" she said whilst dusting the leafs from her legs and arms. "um..ok, y-you s-start" I said stumbling on my words. "Ok" she said looking at me. She gave a fake cough "Well I guess, I should be getting home." she said putting her best pouting face on whilst rocking back and forward like a seven year old. "oh, um.. Is it my line now?" I asked. "yess" she laughed punching me lightly in the arm. "oh..ok I just can't let you walk home like this, but ok see ya" by this time she was hunched over laughing I smiled. "no you say," laugh "you will take me home" she laughed as she spoke. "oh right, yeah yeah." cough, "I can't let you walk home alone in this day and hour, I will walk with you." I smiled and we linked arms and started walking. We finally came to a long alleyway and a block of dark flats where stacked one upon another as if a young kid had been playing building blocks with no imagination at all. "this is me." she said stopping in her tracks. "you live" looking up whilst I spoke "here?". "very much so, with me brother and my mum stays sometimes" she said raising her eyebrows in a srugging way the turned to go. "No." I said suddenly, "That's cool, um Bye" I said holding my hand out. She turned to face me and took my hand in hers. "Goodbye Clay Bear Wood." she said shaking my hand a few times before opening a dark and creaky door and disappeared behind the brick that made up the block of flats, that looked like the had be put together by child with no imagination at alI. I turned around steeped of the path into the gutter my feet disappearing the the leaves and placed my hands into my pockets and walked home.
