-The threshold guardian is the first obstacle in the hero's journey. H is the gateway to the new world the hero must enter to change and grow.
-He usually isn't the story's antagonist. Only after this test has been surpassed will the hero move on to the true antagonist.
-Usually a henchman of the antagonist.
-Can also be a neutral character.
-His goal is to test the hero's worthiness to begin the story's journey, and to show the journey will not be easy.
- the hero encounters the guardian early in the story, usually right after he starts his quest.
