A funny thing happens to a hole in a road, One of life's mysteries I am sure. Cause as soon as a hole in our road appears, It attracts workmen at a rate of four score.
It will start with a fella who is suited and booted and another who wears slacks and a tie.
A week or two later 3 men cordon the hole, and scratch their heads as they don't really know why.
Another week or two passes, four men sit on their arses and seem to play poker all day.
And then finally if lucky a navvy will come and get mucky And dig like a mole on speed for a day.
When only to realise the spot he has dug is the opposite side from the hole, Local youths have been mean, upped the signs when unseen. To make navvy swear in his tongue as a Pole.
