This is one I wrote for jubilee. It is highlighting what jubilee should be about. Look it up! You can read more about in Leviticus. 25:10 to 25:15, or ignore it as I know some might. But before you do, this particular part of the big book concentrates on social justice. It would be nice to think we could celebrate jubilee in such a way.
Jubilee Rap!
Jubilee! Jubilee! what does it mean to you and me? It’s more than Parks and BBQ’s, It’s more than bunting and the Booze. It’s more than just a Royal day Or listening to that Brass Band Play
It’s a line intersecting Misery, It’s a celebration in Egyption History. It’s a memory from our childhood days, But it is so much more, in many ways.
A time for forgiveness, A time for release. A time for neighbourliness, And a time for peace It’s the end of years counting 49, That’s got you thinking, take your time!
A time to release those slaved in our hearts, A time to bring together those that are apart. It’s a farmers time to preserve the earth, It’s a time to reflect on it’s value and worth.
A time to rest our weary bones, Release the shackles of what we own. Open your hearts and let God in, For Jubilee… read new life begin.
As you scoff the charred old banger, Or as you supp the Ale or brew, Yes! Celebrate our sovereign lady, But look to life, afresh and new.
