YOU don't have to F..L..Y..~~~~~ To be a HERO!
AN HONOURABLE HERO is defined as someone who acts with immense bravery, loyalty, who is selfless and who shows a greater need for one's life other than their own.
In the mythological period , heroes held traits of being superhuman: a goddess that was desirably attractive and held qualities of extraordinary abilities. They defended those with a shield of armour.
In modern day times, the term hero is not so highly pressurised, with ideals of astronomical performances in dealing with deadly battles and defeating their enemy. Instead, in today's society, heroes can also be looked upon as being good Samaritans, who do acts of kindness for those less fortunate than themselves: a fireman, policeman, solider/(forgotten heroes), doctor, nurse and an organ donor.
Influential figures such as politicians, fictional characters, celebrities and even everyday people can hold such a title of heroism that changes a persons perception, and through positivity they can help save and shape our lives for the better.
THE MAKING OF A TRADITIONAL HERO
THE Reverend Martin Luther King is well known as an African-American civil rights activist. He was a leader who had the faith and strength in his convictions and that stopped at nothing to achieve justice.
He placed great emphasis on fighting for equality for his people, so that they too could share the abundance of that of a white man.
He spoke powerfully with strength and determination and organised marches for the right to vote; desegregation and other civil rights acts. These rights were later successfully enacted into the United States law, containing the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
His followers trusted him to help free them from the degrading dismissal of being cast aside by society. He changed the perception of the American people forever, from merging two colours into one, by diminishing the end of segregation.
The influence and heroism he had delivered, through not only his actions, but his most famous speech 'I have a dream', will sustain for many years to come, so that they too, could enjoy the dream of freedom.
IS IT A BIRD? IS IT A PLANE? NO! COULD IT BE A... SUPERHERO?
SUPERHEROES are characters that are known to possess extraordinary or superhuman powers.
They are dedicated to protecting society from evil villains, such as aliens, supernatural and mythological beings. These stereotype heroes usually wear costumes and present common hero traits. Such characters were referred to as mystery men in the late 1930s and 1940s because of their disguise.
Have you ever wondered why fireman, policeman, doctors, nurses and soldiers all wear uniforms?
In today 's society a superhero doesn't need to wear a costume/uniform and carry superhuman abilities to prove their worth. They can be anyone like you and me that is prepared to help someone in need.
IS A CELEBRITY A HERO?
A CELEBRITY is a person who is in the public eye and can be portrayed as a role model especially for our young generation.
They can influence us in a bad way or in a good way, depending on how they behave, but is this a true hero?
We have the likes of Katie Price flaunting her assets across the papers, and also falling out of night clubs intoxicated. There is also Cheryl Cole assaulting a toilet attendant. So are we supposed to look up to these types of people?
In addition they have put their influence to good use and helped charity organisations, but are they doing this for extra money and publicity?
How can the public place these people as their heroes? I personally would not recommend them in any way to be a hero, as they are a fabrication of what a hero should be.
So what about people with real courage, people that truly deserve to be hailed as role models, yet just battle on with their everyday lives. These people deserve my gratitude. They are true heroes and are the ones that deserve to be recognised.
PRIDE OF BRITAIN AWARDS Our Real Honourable Heroes
THE PRIDE OF BRITAIN AWARDS celebrates the achievements of truly remarkable and courageous people in our society, from courageous children, teachers, carers, and many others that have shown incredible bravery.
A police officer who rescued 66 people from a burning bus, seconds before the bus exploded, is awarded for his bravery.
James Pout was amongst those awarded for his bravery for saving the life of a drunken tourist who climbed on to the tracks, seconds before an oncoming London underground tube was just about to approach.
Amongst the courageous children is a nine year old boy who saved his mother from a frenzied knife attack by jumping on her attacker and also a five year old girl who rang 999 when her mother fell into a diabetic coma.
Another courageous winner is a woman who raised £4.5million for breast cancer research by gathering up 150,000 woman to walk through the night in their bras.
These courageous and outstanding people are the true winners of heroism because they are real people just like us and that they place other people first before themselves.
CONCLUSION
AS A SOCIETY we place great emphasis on someone or something that will help change our lives for the better, which could be money, car, fame, religion, parents, policeman or a world leader.
From a traditional world leader that wants to change the world and make a difference in people's lives by their faith in his/ her convictions and make a change for the better. A superhero that displays supernatural strength in protecting and saving the world. Celebrities who can generously help influence those in a positive way and to contribute their time for free to raise awareness for charities, regardless of enhancing their careers.
The real heroes are those who courageously save and heal lives, they are the Pride Of Britain winners. These heroes are ordinary people like you and me.
So just remember that we all can have COURAGE, but it is just putting it to good use, then maybe one day when you least expect it, SOMEONE could become your HERO or YOU could become theirs!!
